The Role
It was great for getting experience in a high paced work environment and working for a big company. The people are lovely and you will always have someone to help you if you need it. I was part of the education team and SEN team and I have always had an interest in that.
They made me feel like I was doing good work and was always helping them as much as they were helping me. My managers would praise and reward good work that was done and I felt like I was doing a good job and was a worthy part of the team.
Even though my direct manager changed a few times during my placement, I always knew who I could go to for advice and I would always have someone to talk to. I would have one to one meetings every week and then we would also have a team meeting at the end of the week.
It would depend on how many meetings I had during the day. If I had a few people to interview then I always had something to do, but if it was a day where some people didn't show up, it would leave about an hour gap where I would have to plan some more work to do. However, there was always something you could be doing (e.g. if someone doesn't show up for a registration meeting, then you could scout for more people)
I was treated exactly like any other fulfilment consultant. I wasn't "just a placement year". I had the same responsibilities and did the same work as my colleagues. I was responsible for placing people in job roles, finding people for job roles and I had to make sure that people who went out to work for me were paid accurately.
I have a lot more independence, as you are given a lot of freedom to how you work, as long as you get what you need to done. I have gained better communication skills. I have become more resilient, due to the amount of knock backs you can get, you have to learn how to push yourself on.
The Company
Very very chatty. Everyone is so friendly and nice. You make great friends there. The only reason this rating is not a 10 is because it can get very stressful sometimes and you need to be able to handle this as you will probably become stressed quite often. You just need to learn how to manage it.
I saw nothing wrong with my placement year organisation. My year was the first time they took a placement year student on for a whole year and I couldn't tell that they had never done it before. They were happy to let me go to university if I had a meeting or a lecture I had to go to as they still understood I was a university student doing a placement year.
I went to a weeks worth of training off site in Luton. They put you up in accommodation and provide the food for you whilst away. You get in depth and interactive training that will help you as soon as you go back to work. They make it fun, as they are long days, but they go by pretty fats. We also had training once every few weeks. If something new came into the company we would get training on the new systems.

The Culture
Everyone was really friendly. People would set up different activities for us to do every so often. We even had charity events that we would go to like murder mysteries. It was really fun. Most people are friends outside of work to so would hang out then too. It was fun.
Manchester is quite an expensive area to live in. If you get cheap rent, then you are probably far out of the city and would need to pay more for travel. If you live in the city rent would be high. With the placement year wage that we would get, it would help, but you wouldn't;t spend your money on much else other than getting too and from work, essentials at home, rent and lunch at work the odd time. This is from my friends experience as I actually live in Manchester with my parents, so I was lucky not to pay rent or any home essentials, just travel.
I love Manchester nightlife. It is so much fun and there are so many different places to go. You have picadilly, Northern Quarter, printworks, deansgate, spinningfields, oxford road. There is always something to do and somewhere new to go. It's not too expensive either. You can go to quite a lot of clubs with really cheap entry and cheap drinks.
You could if you wanted to, but I was so tired after work due to the early starts and long days that I just wanted to rest.
