The Role
All in all a really good placement in a great company.
Really appreciated the support of the colleagues, they always took time when I had questions.
In the second half of my placement we had regular meetings, before only ad-hoc guidance when it was necessary
Due to the fact that I was reponsible for a part of the daily business in my department, there always were a lot of things to do
A lot of projects and tasks I had to organize on my own, so the company gave a lot of trust in my abbilities and gave me a lot of opportunities to grow personally
I have learned a lot about my personal job goals and the things I want to do later in my job, also get a lot of feedback of personel strenghts and weaknessess
The Company
really busy atmotsphere, but there was also room for some friendly or funny conversations. Everyone worked focused and concentrated in his job, so it was not hard to jump on this train and work for the targets as well. When there was a reason to celebrate, we also shared the joy and celebrated togehter in the office.
On the one hand, the department I was in organized all the things I needed before I arrived - so from that site it was perfect. But on the other hand I was also really surprised about some things that should communicated before, e.g. the bad oppertunites to get to work with public transport service
I get some trainings to get used to the company and the specific systems there, for example compliance training or a guided course to the IT-systems. For the daily business I had to learn a lot of things by self-studies, sometimes it was not that easy because there was no manual
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen

Working from home
The companies tries to give people a perspective by offering so future oppertunities. Due to the current situation in the automotive sector, it is not that easy to make concrete and long-term promisses, but the company tries to honor motivated and busy Interns by investigating ways to keep them, e.g. by writing a thesis there
The Culture
The company had a lot of Interns, who were really good connected and who also gathered a lot of times after the work / at the weekend. These people made it a lot easier, to get used to the company and the culture of the country, they also tried to support all the stuff around - like finding a flat, get a NIN,...
Compared to my home country some things are much cheaper in UK. Especially the renting cost for a flat room or costs for drinks are quite high. If you have no car, it could be expensive to get to work. On the other hand my employer paid enough salary to live a good life, so in the end it was no issue
Everyday there was a possibility to go out. There were a lot different bars and clubs, so everyone found something that matched to his preferences. Especially the weekends offered a great nightlife with huge diversity. The city of Birmingham also has a lot of different spots, so you have a big choice where to go.
I guess there were a lot more opportunities then I have noticed, but it is not that easy as a stranger to get involved if you are only there for 6 months. Birmingham as a city has a lot of sports clubs, social institutions and offers to spend your time. It´s just hard to take part if you are working free time.
