    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The companies culture is a credit to this placement. Work is always a mixture of enjoyment and stress when working in this environment, however, the culture is consistently great. The people on-site are so friendly and there is a sense of community within the campus. I would say as an intern, sometimes processes can take the fun out of the job.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • This came from a combination of company culture, as well as the resposibility you're given during placement. Colleagues value the work you do for them, for others and the impact you create. The company culture is also very kind and understanding. This is not just departmentally either, this is comapny wide.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Im leaving 6 as a comment but that is not a discredit to my manager - I was given support and guidance up to a point but I was also given the opportunity to find out what to do myself, which has led to massive growth in my personality and business accumen.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I rarely have a day when I am scratching for work. The nature of my internship means that I am constantly project managing and have to ensure I am on the ball at all times. This does not mean that I dont have time to have a coffee with colleagues or miss out on my evening. It is about balance.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As a 20/21 year old when coming into a placement you move from feeling like a teenager to an adult (this is provided you give reason for them to see you as responsible and trust you). I believe that the way the programme is run, responsibility is key and colleagues value your opinion.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Unfortuantly doing a management degree means my marketing placement doesnt stretch to all areas but my studies are valuable when understanding budgets, organisation structure, business markets etc. BMW give the opportunity for you to work with other areas of the business too whether that be working in other departments or collaborating in projects.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Again, like I said the company culture creates a great feeling of community and light-hearted office. For a MNC it is very relaxed and easy going. The office is also open plan and there is flexible working so the office is less regimented and hot-desking is encouraged. Again helping a collaborative atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There is less organisation as a 'programme' but each deparmtent has their own kind of plan to help interns and get them on the right track. HR do provide tools and facilities to get students going and there are also opportunities for students to work together on charity projects and other working groups too.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was able to attend the same training opportunities as other colleagues and the learn @ work sessions too. I was also able to develop my skills through networking sessions and working with partner companies. This is important as it helps you develop your soft skills as well as business accumen.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to have a job here in the future as the company provides such a healthy work life balance and a company car if you are employed directly by BMW. As a graduate this is inevitably a great opportunity, as there is a good salary, good perks and a positive working life.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I would not come to BMW for the social life. Although everyone is very friendly if you do not live in the local towns with other students your placement is limited to socialise. There are also some departments that have only one placement student in, however there does seem to be more socialising as time goes on.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I do not live in Farnborough but I know that it is on a par with Winchester,Bath and Reading. The living costs are not quite as high as London, but they are around £500pppm without bills. Depending on what you're used to and where you are from this can be a shock.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I have not experience the nightlife.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are lots of charity days that go on around the BMW campus as well as department days which means you get hands on with the products and get to socialise with your team and department. These opportunities are always great as they make a good impact on the community and build a stronger company.
