The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year at Randstad CPE. My team were really welcoming and taught me so much. The support and social life that came with working at Randstad opened up the door to so many opportunities and I have made friends that I have kept even after I have left and returned to University.
During my time at Randstad I felt valued by my colleagues. They recognised all of the efforts and successes I made throughout the year. Even while i was still learning when i first started my colleagues would make me feel like i was making good progress. Some of my colleagues became great friends that would make me feel valued as a friend as well as a colleague.
I was given lots of support by my management. I would have weekly meeting with my manager and my team leader would sit down with me every morning and give me any help I needed. If i was having any issues I would always feel comfortable talking to either my manager or team leader as well as other senior consultants across the office, not just in my team.
My work load would vary daily. Although there were the same tasks that must be completed weekly, some days I would spend a lot of time out of the office or away from my desk at meetings and others I would spend a lot of my time at my desk or on the phones.
By the end of my placement at Randstad i was given more responsibility than at the beginning. However there was relatively large amount of responsibility that came with the job that you have to learn to take control of from an early stage. But as the more I learnt the more responsibility I was given that went beyond my job title.
The skills i developed during my placement at Randstad have been very useful since my return to university. The work ethic i had while at Randstad has transferred to be really helpful at uni when it comes to organising and making the most of my day and the time i spend studying. It also hugely built up my confidence.
The Company
There were a few issues I had with software set up when i first started but it was all fixed within a couple of days and i had no issues after that. It would have been a bit better if the training trip I had was a bit closer to the time that i started and not after a couple of months.

The Culture
There was a great social scene between the fellow placement students. We were welcomed in my the whole office and invited to plenty of social events.
My placement was based in central London right in the city centre so cost of living and socialising was more expensive than in the majority of other places in the UK. But I can't say that I ever really struggled and it wouldn't really effect being able to go out and socialise after work.
The nightlife was good in the area that I work in. There were lots of pubs and bars and there were clubs within a short walking distance. There were also lots of restaurants to go to eat and there were other places within an easy travelling distance.
