The Role
Completely exceeded my expectations! I was nervous about going from a university environment into a working environment but I had the best year and it has provided me with skills to go back and complete my final year. A working day was never the same and I looked forward to every one of them.
Everyone at TJX is so friendly and welcoming. The people around me was one of the best things about the job. I was valued from the start and felt fully supported. My team made working a great experience and I was incredibly sad to be leaving at the end of the year.
There is a massive support network within TJX. Multiple meetings happen monthly with management to ensure you are supported and guided throughout the year. If at any point you have any queries there are always multiple people available to help and guide you. Every single person is always happy to help.
Every day is different, but there is always a list of things to do to see you through the day. If I didn’t feel busy enough I could easily discuss this with my manager and I would be allocated other tasks to do. There is a great work balance within the company.
I was given a massive amount of responsibility from the moment I started. At the beginning I was shocked and quite nervous to take on the amount given. But within a few weeks I became much more comfortable and felt valued being given so much. You aren’t treated as an intern but like every other working person around you.
I was unaware of how many skills I would gain during the year, but reflecting on my year I can see how much more confident I have become. I have gained so many skills ranging from excel to people skills. I am so glad that I did a placement year with TJX.
The Company
Such an amazing environment! It is super uplifting and friendly, I could easily walk over to anyone’s desk and ask them for help/discuss work with them. They encourage talking face to face rather than over email and this is made very easy. There are a small amount of offices and everyone sits together at desks.
It was much more organised that I expected! It was a very structured scheme which drew me to the company in the first place. I liked how there were lots of plans set in place and I had lots to look forward to. It made my year very exciting and an enjoyable experience.
You are provided with a lot of training from the minute you begin. The company put a lot of effort into you as they want you to be the best at you job as possible. You are given the same amount of training as any other person starting with the company, and this continues throughout the year.

I thoroughly enjoyed my year with TJX and will be returning after my final year of university. I loved the culture within the business and everyone that worked there. I found my Job very stimulating with a massive amount of perks. I can’t wait to continue my career with TJX.
The Culture
There is a big group of placement/graduate people on the same intake and you are encouraged to socialise throughout the year. There were 12 placement students on my intake and we were around each other a lot. This was something that was important to me when searching for a placement.
It ranges as you can live in London or Watford. The cost of living around Watford is fairly good and socialising in the town was an average price. There is a lot to do especially when you can so easily go into London. This was a massive highlight for me.
There are a fair amount of clubs and bars around. This got even better towards the end of the year as they began to open even more. They are investing a lot in the town so lots of nice restaurants and social activities are being opened which is really nice. The shopping is very good.
There are lots of gyms/sports clubs around which I’m sure offered teams. There is a lot going on outside of work so there is always something to be doing and filling your time up with. If there are activities you are interested in outside of work I’m sure you would be able to find them.
