The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. I felt I was given a lot of responsibility and was a valued member of the team. There was also the opportunity to travel which was amazing.
The culture at TJX is very inclusive. Everyone is so welcoming and you there is big focus on being part of a team.
There is continuous support throughout the year. 1 to 1's are great for helping develop both your professional and personal skills.
I was busy throughout my placement both in buying and merchandising. On top of daily tasks there were always different projects to be working on.
In merchandising, we were treated as a normal graduate. We were given full responsibility as full time analyst. In buying I was also given responsibility for a range of different tasks.
I felt I developed both professional and personal skills throughout my placement. The different technical elements have helped me understand the theoretical side of my course.
The Company
The office atmosphere was always very friendly. Everyone is happy to help regardless of how busy they were.
The placement was very organised right from the start. Throughout both parts (buying and merchandising) we had monthly catch ups with a dedicated placement team to check up on how we were doing and if we needed any help. When starting in each function we had dedicated training which was really helpful and set us up well for the job ahead.
Throughout the placement, I was treated as an equal to a graduate so had the same amount of training and investment into my personal development. We also had extra placement catch ups along, so felt supported throughout my experience.

It was clear from the beginning of my placement that TJX were investing in you and wanted you not just for the year but to have a career with them. Unlike other companies where you have to fight for a returning job, TJX were clear that as long as we met the requirements, they would offer us a job back.
The Culture
There was a great social scene amongst both my fellow placement students and colleagues. As a graduate intake, socials were organised during our training. We also had placement specific social events. The office environment in general is also very social.
The office is based in Watford and I chose to live close by. Rent isn't cheap as it is close to central London. However, it isn't as expensive as living in central and it is only 20 minutes into Euston, which was ideal. The salary was enough to cover living and socialising expenses- it all depends on how often you travel into central London.
There were a good range of bars and a couple clubs. They aren't the best clubs in the world but you can easily have a good night out.
There weren't that many work specific social clubs that I knew about. However, my colleagues and fellow placement students were always up for doing activities outside of work.
