The Role
The team and department were great, the location was beautiful to come to every morning, and my colleagues and supervisors were very supportive at all times.
My managers acknoledged me as a full colleague, not just an intern. I did get a say in subjects involving me. I was not only told and assigned tasks, but rather asked for my opinion. I felt very valued and integrated into the team. I could always give my honest opinion and got real feedback on my work.
I felt supported at all times. I always knew I could ask several people for support, not only just one person. My tasks are rather unguided ones, so if I needed help, I had to ask for it, which was never a problem. Everybody did listen to me when needed and provided as much support and guidance as possible.
Due to covering for a full time position on top of the normal internship assignments it could get very busy at times. That does not mean I was stressed or didn't know where to start. With a bit of ime management and efficiency, I did manage to get everything done in time and without stressing or rushing through anything. I a grateful for the trust my supervisor had in me with handing over a very time consuming project. I was given the opportunity to learn a lot from that.
I was the only one knowing about particular reports, which is rather challenging given the fact, that I am new and still getting into the topics. So I feel it was a lot of responsibilty running these by myself. Regarding a project, that I took over form my predeccessor, I had a lo of responsibilty, too, in running it. After the Roll-Out I had to find a routine first and adjust the processes by myself. Of course, I did feedback to my supervisor and discussed the most important topis with him. But I highly valued the level of responsibility I was given there.
I can only say, that I have learnd a lot more than I would have expected from this internship. I pick up on Microsoft Access and strenghtened my Microsoft Excel skills. I also did work with SAP ERP for the first time independendly and learned a lot. I was able to apply skills and knoledge from university to a certain level. But within the placement, I learned a lot more than university could teach. I experienced that a view skills, I have developed in the past, were extreely helpful in order to get on with the position. Most importantly multicultural knowledge about communitcating to colleagues or customers from with different cultural backgrounds.
The Company
Our office i usually quiet, which did not bother me at all. It provided a suitable atmosphere to work and get work done. But nobody would be annoyed when someone would talk. In general, I did enjoy working in this particular office very much.
My team was great and the intern, I took over from, did his best to explain als the important things to me. However, the initial setup for my first week appeared to be quite unorganised. I did not have a laptop to work on for the first few days. HR seems to be very unorganised around the whole company. Communication did not satisfy me. I had to chase them a lot. I got my initial e-mail with all necessary information with a ONE WEEK delay, which is not okay. What was quite confusing to me, was the absence of up to date introduction material, such as intern guides etc. But apart from that, everything was fine.
BMW Group required me to complete a lot of compliance trainings, which was nothing new regarding their contents at all. But I found it interesting and good, that they make interns take the trainings. Due to the extended level of responsibilty I was given, I felt very challenged and developed my personal communication, efficiency and english skills. Working at RR gave me the opportunity to discover the british culture thouroughly. Overall, the company could have done more to join interns together or provide a little more insight to interns.

In terms of working within my Department I would very much like to apply for a permament position. But looking at the current situation of the whole industry and listening to other employees, there is only few chances to directly get into a good position here.
The Culture
Since there are so many interns throughout the company, it is not very difficult to meet new people or find groups to go out with, have lunch with or spend free time with. I myself lived with three other interns from RR, which I really enjoyed. Would reccomend
The salary, interns get payed, is needed to cover living and socialising costs. I would describe it as rather expensive than cheap. But there are loads of opportunities to save money or have a good time without spending too much.
Chichester is quite small with one real club. But there are loads of bars and both Brighton and Portsmouth are not too far away. Also London is only an 1,5h train ride. Thursdays is students night in all Chichester Pubs and Clubs, so there is definetly always something going on.
Yes. Depending on what one is into, there is definitely enough to do. Gym, sports, art, walks, outdoors, travel, city tours. As said above, Chichester is located not far away from Brighton, Portsmouth, Southampton, London etc.
