Security technology intern Review

The work placement was overall an enjoyable experience. It is worth doing for those that are interested in a career in engineering and with specialist teams. I love the concept of specialist teams especially because they accomodate people with the odd yet important backgrounds like security. It was quite interesting to see how all teams work together on a project.

I felt really valued by my colleagues. It almost did not feel like coming in to work, but felt like coming into a place that was comfortable because of how much you are welcomed. Everyone made an effort to get to know me and make sure that I was okay.

I was given support as much as I asked for it. Although my managers were quite busy with projects, they still tried to support me in any way they could and lead me in the right direction.With every task I was given, I was also guided on how to approach it.

I was not too busy, especially because most of the tasks I was given were able to be done within a few hours. Other times when I was really included into a project, I would work on it for consecutive days due to the amount of work. Every week I was also taken to different meeting which kept me occupied.

I would say I got enough responsibility during my placement. I got the right amount for the type of experience I had. I was not given things that I could not handle. Most times it was jsut to handle the most easiest stuff and make sure that I got it done right.

The skills i developed had a positive impact towards me and my degree. I was able to get training specifically within areas that I was taugh on my degree. The training i received gave me the push to look into these things more and increase my skills with the hope of taking these skills back to my home country and making a difference.

The general atmosphere was quite good in terms of the people who are working thee. The aethetic however was wuite gloomy and made it easy to get bored or be lazy. Burohappold has a welcoming vibe overall but the work spaces do not have that, and these days work spaces are meant to nice to a certain extent.

I do not necessarily think it was organised to its full potential. At times, they were not sure of what task to give me as they were also busy. It would be worth it in the years to come, to write out a plan that will be followed weekly and ensure that the intern has learnt that.

The company invested in me quite well. I was quite fortunate in attending various meetings and trainings that helped develop my knowledge and skills. Every week there was somethign scheduled that helped broaden my skills. So I would say that this was quite thought out in helping interns learn more.

I feel like it is worth getting a chance to be employed with them. The internship gives you a good background and experience to land a job as you are already quite used to their work environment. Not sure how appealing the prospects are for specialist teams though.

I think the barbecue that happened was a good social scene to get to know each other. Apart from that, I can not say much regarding the overall social scene for placement students. They can do more by doing an event specifically for interns to get to know each other better.

I hardly ever socialised in the area as i only went to work and then went home. I am not sure what the cost of socialising is however. In terms of living, it is quite costly to live there and you find yourself barely keeping any of the salary you just made.

I am not sure of the nightlife. I am not interested in engaging in those sort of things so I am unable to give the best answer. I would assume the nightlife in london will be quite good depending on where you go. It is worth asking colleagues what they usally get up to.

Apart from the social events hosted at the office, I am not sure if there were any activities available outside of work. The team away day seemed like a good concept to have teams engage in different acitvities. I was not able to go but seems like it is quite a good idea.
