The Role
It was great. I learnt a lot and also felt like I contributed a lot. I worked on a variety of projects both in office and in the field experience. I got a lot of support and got a chance to work with everyone on the team. BuroHappold is a great place.
I felt like they were happy to have me there. They were happy to help me learn and assist them with their projects. They also invited me out to many of their outings after work and on weekends, which was nice since I didn't know many people in the city.
There was lots of support. I felt I could go to anyone anytime if I had questions. And they provided a lot of opportunities for me to learn about the company and the work I was doing. And the projects provided a lot of new experiences that I was able to learn from.
Always had something to do. There was never day where I was not sure what to be working. In the time I helped with many projects. But I also never felt overwhelmed with work, and did not struggle to meet deadlines. And I didn't feel pressure to stay late either.
I wasn't running projects, but I was involved with a lot of them and felt like I was useful to getting work done. And, because I had learnt how to use a program that was used at BuroHappold, I was able to bring my knowledge and experience to projects that utilized it heavily.
I hadn't worked in an engineering company before, so I learnt a lot about the industry and work environment, which was very nice. And, will be useful for a long time to come. I felt like I had learnt a lot of what we were working with in school, so it was very nice to know the theory when I came into the job.
The Company
Was a place where people had lots of fun but also did their work well and were proud of it. Everyone worked hard on their projects. But also, there were after work events most weeks I was there, which was nice. And people liked to go out for lunch sometimes.
Felt it was well organized, they knew what they were doing and I wasn't waiting around on my first day. I felt like there could be a bit more information about dealing with things like the pension contributions that are set up. I didn't have much information about that even though I had one set up. I got most of the information once I had completed my internship.
They took the time to help me learn. I was able to go on field visits and take measurements. Had the weather been cooperative, I would've gone up north and spent the night, which would have been interesting. There wasn't much time for me to go things like conferences or go to other learning sessions. Though I was invited and attended an Institute of Acoustics meeting.

Working from home
I very much look forward to possibility of working at BuroHappold once I graduate. We talked about working as a graduate once I am finished my studies. But also have discussed the possibility of doing a master's thesis, which could be very interesting. I quickly made friends at BuroHappold, so would be happy to go back.
The Culture
There was a great social scene. People got along, and there were many friendships within the company. There were also summer barbeques which was fun. And the Young Engineers committee always had lots of events going on for people to get involved in. They also participated in Pride which was very nice to see.
Because the office is the centre of London (Fitzrovia) it can be quite expensive to live close to work. However, I lived at Baker Street for the two months I was there and was able to walk half an hour to work. So that was nice. Most people commute in on the tube or by bike.
There were many pubs and restaurants in the area to go to. And, because it is in the centre of the city it is not far to the clubs and to the theatre. It was a great location with so much to do, so much to see, so much to eat, and so much to drink.
There were opportunities to get involved. As simple as attending the Young Engineers events like picnics and camping. But also able to participate in marching in the Pride Parade in London with the company. There are also things like running clubs that people get involved with. There are lots of opportunities, though I didn't get as involved since I was only there for two months.
