The Role
very enjoyable. treated like full time staff, given the same job as a graduate who would have just joined the company. good environment to learn.
felt part of the team from the start, everyone is happy to help as much as possible. given a good amount of responsibility, not treated like temporary staff.
everyone is happy to help as much as possible in getting used to the company. Its easy to ask for help when doing tasks if it is needed, no matter how busy people are you dont feel like a burden.
to be honest in my role i felt i was the perfect level of busy. i was never bored and always had something to do but i wasn't busy to the point of working through lunch/ staying after hours. the workload was very manageable and it wasn't stressful.
I was a part of a big team responsible for 7 departments. i was regularly placing orders and managing intake worth hundreds of thousand's. when i grew more into my role i was given some decision making responsibilities too, but these were not that regular with many people being above me.
I feel like im now an excel expert and i'm able to organise myself and multitask to a much higher level, which will help with studies. but most importantly i now have a great amount of experience to give me a head start in developing a career post graduation.
The Company
the atmosphere is great. there is a great mix of people in the office and everyone was easy to get along with. theres regular activities that people take place in such as sponsored events to raise money for charity.
i was the first placement in my role at matalan but as i was treated just like a permanent new starter it meant the on boarding process was very well organised.
matalan has a development website called matalan education where employees can easily sign up for lessons known as masterclasses, which are an opportunity to get away from your desk and learn in more of a classroom environment. As placement students we also had masterclasses to develop ourselves to develop skills and techniques that will help going forward in our careers.

Company Parties/Events
I would happily return to matalan post graduation as it is a enjoyable place to work. However, when thinking towards a career moving forward it is a very competitive environment for promotions resulting from a young workforce.
The Culture
Although the office is not in the best area for socialising outside of work, being on an industrial estate on the outskirts of Liverpool, there are always events being organised with people in the office both colleagues and fellow placement students.
Liverpool is a good value for money place to live. many options for socialising at all different levels on the cost spectrum. city centre is well known for socialising
no direct nightlife in Kirkby but the opportunity to go out in Liverpool where night life is great.
yes, always events going on to raise money for charities such as alder hey. also many events for bragging rights throughout the year.
