The Role
I really enjoyed working as part of a team within my placement, where everyone starts at the same level most of the team are of a similar age. The workload was evenly distributed between being in the office and being out on the road so even though the hours were a little longer the days went by quite quickly.
I did feel valued by my team while working at Enterprise, from day one everyone in the team is showing you what they do and helping you learn. I was also encouraged to take on more responsibility quite early on in my placement which made me feel like my manager wanted me to learn a lot and make the most of my year.
In my branch I had a branch manager, two assistant managers and a 'buddy' so I felt fully supported and I had a range of people I could go to to ask different questions. My training folder was filled out with my managers supervision at each stage also.
Very busy. There is always something to do, if not for that day you will be making sure you have the vehicles you need for tomorrow. If it isn't serving a customer, I would be on the phone or computer, or out driving. Training on other areas of the business was encouraged when there wasn't as many deals to do in the day.
A lot of responsibility. But only what I could handle. You are a manager in training from your first day, so there is no making teas or photocopying. A few months into my placement I was responsible for raising the branches customer service score which helped my develop my confident and leadership by running morning meetings and discussions and looking at new ways of dealing with challenges.
I have learned how to manage my time throughout the day and to split my workload. Working an average of 48 hours means that I have been able to achieve a good work/life balance now. I am much more confident when coming forward with ideas and not afraid to ask for help where needed.
The Company
The office was a fun environment to be in most of the time. Obviously when it was busy there would be stressful times. But part of the work was to make sure that the customer is having a good experience when renting a car so we tried to keep the atmosphere light and fun most of the time.
Very well organised. In the first week there is a training week and you receive a folder with a stage by stage training in it with tasks to be completed throughout.
One thing that Enterprise encourage you to do is a Management Qualification Interview which demonstrates your understanding of the company and management and other colleagues will really help with this because everyone will have done it at one stage. When I was revising for mine I was taken to Nandos by my manager and they took time out of their evening to make sure I was doing well.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing, I have been offered a job and I know that when I go back I can work towards being an assistant manager straight away! Career progression is a big thing with Enterprise.
The Culture
I worked with a few placement students in the year and the social scene is good within the company as a whole. I wouldn't go out specifically with other placement students but with the whole team and even others from local branches.
Relatively cheap, I lived at home with parents and drove 15 minutes to work everyday. Socialising differed in price depending on where you went out.
I worked in an area that was just outside of London, so if you wanted to go out in London you could. There wasn't much nightlife in the immediate area, but there were a few bars and pubs nearby. If you wanted to go 'out out' then you'd have to get a cab to the next area.
Volunteering days were offered and Enterprise are always at PRIDE events!
