The Role
I really enjoyed my summer internship here with Deloitte. Given that I was going to be in a sector I had never interned at before, I was really nervous to start. But my team at Deloitte really helped me throughout the whole internship and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.
My team were one of the friendliest bunch and I was really fortunate to be in such a wonderful team. Everyone was ready to help us out in any way and properly explained even the simplest questions we asked. They made sure we got a proper intern experience and were given work.
Deloitte gives you a buddy and also has SVS champions in every team. The SVS champions are there to check in with us every two weeks and always made sure we were okay and had enough work. And our buddies were there to help guide us if we ever needed anything.
There would be days where you became swamped with work and there would be days where the work load was less. In my opinion, there was a good balance. If we ever wanted more work, all we had to do was just ask around in my team and in one or two days, someone would give us work.
I would say we were given more responsibility than I thought we would be given. Our team really let us be part of projects and asked for our opinions and suggestions, which was surprising but very nice of them as it truly did make us feel a part of the team.
I think this experience has given me a new perspective on what working life will be like. And it has helped me understand not only what it would be like working with Deloitte, but also more insight into tax consulting which is a career I am now very interested in.
The Company
Was a really nice atmosphere. Our office operated a hot seat basis which allowed us the chance to sit with different colleagues each day and mingle around. The office is located next to the canal which really made coming to work a lot nicer in the mornings. They also provided us with an equipped kitchen which was really nice!
They were really well organised. They had a buddy system as well as SVS champions which made the internship a lot more structured. From day one, we were told to come up with individual goals (internship related) that we would then spend the next six weeks trying to complete them.
I think they did a good job. We had a lot of e learning courses that we could do in our spare time that did benefit us. Besides that, our colleagues also took the time to go through a lot of stuff since as a newcomer, there were lots to learn.

They made me an offer which I am delighted to take up on! This internship really made me grateful that I chose Deloitte and am very excited to start working there after I graduate!
The Culture
I think there was a fairly decent scene. I did hope to see more of the other intents - especially in the other areas since we only saw the other tax interns. Think it is more difficult to have a social scene in regional offices compared to London since London is obviously a lot bigger.
I lived in my university house over the summer so I would say the commute cost was the only cost I had to spend. The train to Birmingham wasn't bad and it was a really nice walk from the station to the office in the morning so did not feel like a hassle.
I did not live where my office was so I can not comment on the nightlife. But from what I've heard, Birmingham has a pretty decent night life
Personally, there were not that many that were offered to us. Which maybe was due to it being summer and a lot of people not being in the office? So can not really comment on this question
