The Role
I enjoy the variety of the work I have been tasked, and there is always a suitable amount for me to do. The content of the work is also very useful for my degree and guiding me in future job options, as well as opening doors to continue working within the company itself.
Everyone is very welcoming and friendly, and there are various events both inside and outside of work that help to build friendships. The work I am doing is relatively straightforward though, and hence I am aware that many other people could do the work, however I know that the work I do is appreciated.
I feel very able to ask questions and know that the time will be given to appropriately answer the question, and it is checked that I fully understand the task as well as the technical knowledge aspects. My manager is suitably interested in both my work in the office and how things are going outside of the office, so I know if there was any issue at home I could mention it to him.
I always have tasks to be doing, which are varied in type but also repeated enough that I am developing and consolidating knowledge and skills, which is very helpful. Its busy enough to be interesting and means I am sure of there will be something to do when I am in the office, but I am not overwhelmed. However, I do occasionally stay late to get things done, such as sorting things before going on site.
I have been given the opportunity to lead an apprentice when on site, with the intention of training them and showing them all of the things that need to be completed. I have also had the opportunity to help with organising an internal practice forum, which gave me some responsibility of ensuring things ran smoothly.
It is varied and helps mainly with the skills that are necessary for work beyond returning to university, such as understanding better how the industry works and what is done day to day on project work. However will also help to focus my mind when returning to university and should help with aspects like time management. I have also spent the time to better develop my proficiency in CAD, as well as now being more confident in my use of national design standards.
The Company
Everyone is nice and friendly, and have nice little chats in the kitchen with people from all over the office when making coffees. However the office is flexible working, and hence nobody has set seats, which is nice and means you can sit where you prefer in the office. It also means that you sit next to different people every day, which is good as you meet more people each day, and means the space is clean and clear. However, you don't always get to sit near you manager and team, which makes communication and asking questions a bit more difficult.
I received all the appropriate documentation in good time before starting my placement, and have had well organised induction training, and had the opportunity to go to many different welcoming events. These events include introduction to office support staff, office wide networking, new starters network, 'Early Career Professionals' networking, which means I fully understand what I'm doing and my role within the company. I have had no issues. There are also 4 week, 4 month and 1 year reviews with my manager to assess how I'm doing and an opportunity for me to raise any concerns and request things that I would like to be doing with my time at the company.

I am also encouraged to start to complete the paper work for my professional qualification.

At the end of my year with them, I have been advised, that It is very likely that I can get a job with them. This even extends to the opportunity to move office and department, only requiring a possible interview to meet my new manager and team. I have been given contacts within HR and details for how to do this so I wish at the end of the year,
The Culture
There is a sports and social committee that organise things semi regularly however I have not gone to anything yet. We also have a new starters WhatsApp group, but I have not met up with anyone outside of office hours, however things have been planned.
It's okay, I can afford to do what I want to be doing with the pay I am receiving.
I have heard it is good, however have not been myself yet.
Occasionally events organised by sports and social committee, however these are not very regular. There are office and department Christmas parties. I have also attended a practice forum and networking event.
