    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very Enjoyable, it is an open office which allows you to engage with a wide range of people. This is important for a intern because it is easy to collborate with people of different roles, including those senior. I have enjoyed working here to a large extent due to the wide range of company benefits and people within the office.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Despite being an intern and this being my first role in a professional environment, I have felt extremely valued by my colleagues. They have included me in all socials, entrusted me with tasks that require a large responsibility and have reassured me when I am doing a good job. No question has been too big or too small and everyone is extremely attentive.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • From the first day I have been given immense support from my manager and supervisor. I effectively have both and they serve different purposes, I am in close contact with my supervisor on a daily basis and he/she is extremely supportive and is always there for my every concern, whether it is work related and beyond. I also have 1:1 bi weekly meetings with my manager which is really helpful to track my progress

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the start of the placement there is a low workload which is helpful in order to get used to the role. As the workday progresses, the working day is quite busy as this role requires you to support different members of your team. Therefore there is high involvement in different projects which may require you to do different tasks. At times, this can cause stress if you do not know how to balance effctivdey, but thanks to the supportive team it is easy to raise any concerns you may have. .

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given immerse responsibility, at times if I did not do my role effectively, web pages would not have been built which is needed for the registration of events. I also have an array of projects I am running end-to-end. This is a positive attribute of the placement because it goes against the stereotypes of an intern doing only menial jobs.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The biggest take away from this placement is organisation and strategy . Prior to the placement I was quite dis organised with the way I would approach assignments and schedule my day. However this placement has taught me how important it is to know exactly what you're doing and when. Box uses great organisational tools such a google calendar which is something I know I will use to schedule my time at university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is one of the kind and one of the best offices you could work at in London. One of the office benefits is free food and snacks, amazing views of London, high tech meeting rooms. It is truely an amazing office and one I feel privileged to work in. Great opportunity.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement opportunities at Box are brand new Therefore, I think the organisation is still trying to adapt to having placement students. At the beginning I was facilitating tasks here and there. However, there is a much better organisation in place, even a project that the interns have to specifically work on. The nature of the company is highly organised, therefore, there is always a plan in place and the delegation of tasks.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company has great investment in personal training, they have paid for an online training course programme which I used a lot at the beginning of the placement. Also, they had a 2 day onboarding programme, as well as public speaking training classes that have been used to boost my confidence in the ability to public speak (which I can use throughout my career).

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are appealing as there is high scope to grow within the company. Promotions seem to be a regular occurence in Box. It is encouraging to know that it is a progressive company and employees do not tend to stay in the same role for years on end.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Box has regular event, end of quarter celebrations, christmas party, halloween party, team events etc. The company is very good at enticing everyone to take part in the social event and help them cater to all people. However, as there are not many interns its hard to comment on social scene amongsts other students, the company is still growing and there is currently 3 placement roles.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in London is expensive, Shoreditch has a lot of nice food places however it would cost a lot to eat there on a regular basis. I always eat the food that is provided by Box which reduces my living cost and is a very big financial perk. Also, as a commuter it is expensive due to the travel pass that would be required to get to work everyday. High about of socialisings, bars clubs, restaurants, can cater for all different types of students.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As a commuter I did not feel the need to explore the night life in the particular area that I worked, however from my observation there are many clubs, bars, restaurants that are open late. On a friday night there is a good atmosphere when walking in Shoreditch and is a place that is easily accessible and unlikely to be short of something to do.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are many opportunities to get involved with activities inside work, however due to the working hours being 9am-6pm, it made it hard to have the enthusiam to explore activities outside of work. However Box does provide 3 volunteer days to promote helping the community which is a unsual offering a lot of companies do not offer.
