The Role
I really enjoyed my placement at Mattel, the company culture was really friendly, relaxed and fun. Everyone I worked with was really welcoming and willing to help me learn and develop in my role. I was given lots of responsibility and a variety of work from day one, which I found great and I was always supported by my team.
I felt very valued by my colleagues and I would often receive praise and feedback from others. Mattel has a rewards recognition programme and I received multiple certificates and rewards from colleagues in my team and around the business. I worked within a small team and we got on really well and I was always trusted to do my job!
During my time at Mattel I was always given support and guidance from my manager and my team. I would have weekly meetings/catch ups with my manager to give me support and feedback on my work and I always felt like I could ask my colleagues if I needed help.
Mattel is a very fast paced company and I felt my job role reflected this, which I personally really enjoyed! I always had something to be getting on with and projects to be getting involved in, which made it fun. At busy times of the year or when a team member was on leave, we would struggle a bit more with the workload but everyone supported each other through it.
I was given lots of responsibility in my placement from day one and I felt trusted by my team. This meant I was able to get involved with a variety of work and projects. I was also given the opportunity to express any areas I wanted to learn about or develop and focus on these.
I think the skills I have learnt will assist me greatly as they are so transferable to any role I want to go into in the future. In addition, I have come into my final year feeling much more confident about my skills especially in terms of organisation and time management.
The Company
The atmosphere at Mattel was really positive and fun. We regularly had office events and initiatives to keep the environment positive and friendly. Everyone around the business was really friendly and approachable, which made it a nice environment to be in. Everyone in the office contributed towards the fun and lively atmosphere.
I felt the placement was organised well and I knew what was expected of me. Regular catch ups and meetings with the team meant I was always kept in the loop about what was going on. When I first started, I was given an onboarding plan to help me settle in. It was a good balance as we were also about to be flexible and change aspects of my role to suit mine and the teams needs.

The Culture
All the placement students got on really well from the start of our time at Mattel, which was really nice. We all supported each other through our placements and would chat and catch up often. We went out for drinks and lunch together quite a few times and many of us are still in touch!
