About You
The employees were very nice and welcoming and helped to ease everyone in to the world of finance. The day was well structured and allowed us to spend an adequate amount of time with both senior and junior staff. Networking took priority which was great because you get to meet the people you may end up working with.
The employees were extremely eager to hear from us and adequately answer all the complex and detailed questions we asked on the day. Some even offered their LinkedIn in case we needed further help which I think demonstrates their culture well as it was second nature to offer a helping hand.
Even with what would seem like really basic finance questions, the employees still took care to explain things were unsure of and checked to see if we were still unclear on something which was definitely helpful for people like me who may not have come from a background in finance.
I think because I am not doing a degree that is finance related, the information I receive will never be extremely relevant to my degree and that is fine as I know that the job I want to have after I graduate will not be related to what I am currently doing.
The Company
Although we were left to wait downstairs for quite a while at the start of the day, I can under how hard it can be getting such a big group of people in few elevators to the top floor. A part from that, the insight day was really well structured.
The genuine atmosphere was quite welcoming because every colleague I met was eager to talk to us and encourage us to join the firm as they had remarked that it was a decision that they are glad that they met with most of them at the time not being aware of what was to come.
This was not really relevant to the insight day nor was it really intended to be a part of the insight day. The day was meant to be to introduce us to the bank so that we can make the decision of whether or not we wanted to work there.
I have a really strong idea of what it would be like to work at the firm after speaking to several employees at Mufg. However, like the majority of roles, you won’t really know what it is like unless you join which is why I have decided to apply for an internship.
Everyone seemed very relaxed for people who worked an investment bank that is meant to be incredibly fast paced. I began to understand why this was as I learnt that the Japanese way of business is to look at the long term which requires patience and a more conservative approach.
I liked hearing about everyone’s roles however I am still split between two divisions, transaction banking and debt capital markets. Thankfully I was informed that I could rotate between the two during the internship programme which is something that I have not seen any other bank offer to their interns.
Everything Else
we were told that we had to fill in a form beforehand which I found more organised that other firms which don’t send you the reimbursement form until weeks later then take at least a month to reimburse expenses or not even offer the option to have travel expenses reimbursed.
