The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year at MSD because I was given responsibility and accountability for projects that I could own myself. My team trusted me from the start and made me feel very capable and a valued team member. I would love to work there again some day and continue to build on my skills.
Extremely valued. I was treated as an equal and was made to feel part of the IT family from the very start. My colleagues took an interest in who I was and what my story was so far, which made me feel incredibly valued. We were more of a family, than colleagues.
I was given the right amount of support and guidance from my team and my manager. I had regular one to ones where I could easily express how I felt I was doing and what my development areas were. I was then armed with the right tools to be able to further strengthen my skillset.
Very busy. There wasn't a dull moment. Besides the day job, we were encouraged to take on projects that became available across the organisation to build on our networking and broaden our knowledge of the business. Not a day went by where I didn't feel busy or pushed to challenge myself.
I was given a huge amount of responsibility. I was given a project to own from day one. A project that had an impact on the whole organisation so it was a big feat to undertake. It was daunting at first but I soon felt a huge sense of pride.
I currently do business management so the skills I learnt are imperative to my course and will allow me to go on to use these skills and further develop them. Leaving the technical elememnts to the side, I developed my confidence which has had the biggest impact on my studies as it has given me the courage to know I am capable.
The Company
It was a very relaxed culture and very open. the Managing Director sat out in the open plan office and was very approachable and this fed throughout the teams in the organisation. Everyone was welcoming and encouraging and never treated us like students which was an added bonus to the placement.
It was really well organised. I loved every minute of the placement and felt supported from the day I started to the day I left. The programme organisers made themselves available where and when I needed them and also made me feel as though no question or query was a silly one.
I felt as though my team were completely invested in me. They really put a lot of interest and encouragmenet into me whcih was freshing. It wasn't soemthing I had thgouht would happen. My development was taken seriously and keys areas I wanted to development were put into action and I was able to gain more knowledge and understanding of different systems.

Future employment prospects are very appealing because I really enjoyed my time there and would love to work back at an organisation where I feel comfortable and valued. I feel as though I could bring a long more tp the organisation if I was given the chance to. so yes, it's very appealing.
The Culture
there was a good social scene, mainly among the students as we made our own group and had similar interests.
I stayed living at home and commuted to work so the cost of living was kept at a minimum for me. I had more dispoable income than many of my cohort for this reason. However socialising wasn't that expense where we were located as it was outside of London. that helped!
Not quite as buzzing as London or any of the major cities but it was enough for what I wanted. I wasn't big on nightlife as working all day and all week made me tired and I wanted to sleep more than anything! so I'd say it fitted my needs.
There wans't many opportunities outside of work, only the activities us students cretaed for ourselves.
