The Role
I enjoyed a lot of the task I had to do, this placement is not directly related to my usual expertise and I really enjoyed to get some kind of engineering and programming background. The working environment was also pretty nice, because I was provided with a very good computer, three screens and a mobile phone. I was able to get some good insights on how engines get produced. Overall I enjoyed it, but I would not do it again, because I need more experience in my actual future working field,
It really depends on the actual colleague, some of them valued me a lot and gave me interesting tasks. Most of this tasks were pretty easy and sometimes also borng. But some were pretty hard and I enjoyed learning in this way, although I had not enough support with this projects. Some of my colleagues were not too friendly though, never saying good morning or goodbye and not really noticing that I exist at all.
This is the biggest negative about my placement. I had nearly no guidance of my boss and during my whole time here he maybe spoke to me overall for 40 minutes. Also another intern tought me about my biggest project and he never took the time to talk with me about this project in detail, not even once. Alhough I also have to mention that he is actually a very nice person, but the guidance was overall terrible.
Most often I had some kind of work to do and even if not, then I could just walk around and learn new things about the plant. So this was pretty good overall, especially for a placement I liked it. And I wish that all placements would offer enough work, like this one.
Overall I think I got a lot of responsibility, the smaller tasks were not too importan. But I was responsible for an innovation project completely on my own, without any kind of support. It is only not the perfect score, because in some way it was also a bit too much, becase I would have needed a bit more support.
Overall not too much, because I study finance and this was engineering work and programming. But I still think I can use this experience, because I want to work as an Analyst, valueing stocks and this gave me a deeper understanding for the automotive industry. So in that case it could be very helpful.
The Company
Most of the people were always in a good mood and when you asked them something they were happy to answer. Only during some days when there was a lot of work some people were stressed out. But overall I would say the general atmosphere in the office was pretty good.
It is somewhere in the middle, the intern who taught me a lot of things also did the general organisation for this placement. So he did overall a good job and already prepared a lot before I arrived. So I was basically able to start working on my first day at work.
Nearly nothing, I got some online classes, but those were mainly just for teaching me safety things and it is necessary if you work here. Before I started my boss told me there is also a trip to germany planned, but that never happened. So that was a bit sad.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
I think it would have been possible to stay longer for my placement, but otherwise not really realistic, also because I have a totally different background. So overall I also have to say that I do not want to continue working there. But I think with a proper background and motivation it would be possible.
The Culture
That was overall pretty nice, I have to say I am myself not the most social person ever. But I really enjoyed the time with them, most of them were super nice and we also did some things in the free time. So overalll that was the best about this internship.
The cost is pretty high, especially in comparison to germany it is pretty expensive and I definitely did not go out that often. Only like 4 times and most oftne in the cheapest pub. So overall I think it was pretty bad, but that is also my own fault and because everything is too expensive.
There is a good amount of bars and clubs but I am not too much into this kind of things and because of that I did not go out too often. But it is also way too expensive, so I avoided it most of the time, because I rather just save the money.
Yes there were a lot of opportunities, you could go to play football with them, meet other interns and go out with them. We also went with the department to a restaurant and other departments had even way more activities. So I think in this aspect it was generally pretty good.
