About You
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the other international clerks and speaking with all the lawyers in the two departments that I sat with. It was a great balance of work, information sessions and socials. I really enjoyed my time and would recommend my Australian peers to apply for this program.
The people at Linklaters are extremely friendly and will go out of their way to make you feel included.
The GR team is fantastic at Linklaters. They will ensure that you feel supported through the entire scheme and made sure that there was a great balance in the activities and sessions we participated in. The lawyers at Linklaters are leading minds in the market. By learning through their expertise and patience, I felt that I was being lead by the best people in their fields.
I believe I learnt a great deal about Linklaters as a firm and in my departments I was also exposed to EU and UK specific regulations. I believe this information will assist me if I will later join Linklaters and work in London.
The Company
It was clear that GR and the other organisational parties gave a lot of thought into the planning of the program. There was a great variety of activities and events that we could get involved in.
Within the International Clerk cohort and the departments that I sat with there was a strong collegiate atmosphere and you definitely felt supported throughout. I also felt that the firm has a nurturing environment that encourages its lawyers to seek extra experiences, opportunities and development. This definitely added to my enjoyment of the program.
As an International Clerk from Australia, the firm had to invest a lot in us to bring us over from Australia. All transportation, accomodation, working visas and the expenses for socials (among other things), were covered by Linklaters.
As a clerk I wasn't given as much responsibility and as I came during the festive season I was not able to see the extent of the work. Therefore, I wouldn't say that I could envision entirely what a full time role would be like at Linklaters. This is just because the nature of the scheme is that it is run for a short time.
I definitely got a sense of the friendly and supportive culture at Linklaters by interacting with the solicitors at all levels of seniority. They were always willing to help and get to know you which I appreciated as a clerk.
This experience definitely confirmed which areas of law I was more interested in over other areas. I also know that I definitely want to work in London and for a firm like Linklaters.
Everything Else
As an Australian clerk, Linklaters paid for all relevant expenses.
There were many networking opportunities to speak to the employees at Linklaters in addition to actually working in one of the teams.
The networking and social events were well catered and there was a great variety in the type of events on offer. There was great opportunity to meet the other clerks on the internship and speak to the employees of Linklaters who were also present.
It was harder to find out about the activities that employees do outside of work. I found out a lot about the activities that Linklaters offers besides legal work though.
Yes, I believe the program is an incredible overseas opportunity that really enables Australian students to get a sense of what it would be like to work at an international law firm.
