    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Everyday was a different opportunity to showcase my talent and learn important skills through responsible tasks. I have transformed from a student into a young professional and established valuable contacts in the industry. Our smiles and interactions always enriched my days and contributed to making my time there all the better.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was given big responsibilities and my decisions were treated with importance. I was given important feedback along the way and was intigrated into the team like a family member. All those responsibilities, guidances and feedback have had a major impact on my professionalism and outlook and my efforts on a project have also been recognized on the Plant's newsletter.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All the experienced specialists I have worked with have happily shared their knowledge about vital techniques and given their insights to general aspects of team working which has helped my development of soft skills. I learned a lot about assembly structure from Assembly Associates while I worked on projects and documentations. My teams for the various innovation projects I was involved with including data analysis development and incorporating AI in vision tools were extremely helpful to work on problems together and I have had the opportunity to be helpful to others in the team.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had multiple fixed daily activities and tasks to carry out and on top of that also had my individual and group projects running which were of high priority. But i also had lunch breaks which were ideal times to network with other interns and have half days on fridays which enebled perfect work life balance

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was responsible for projects with potential savings of over £200,000 and my decisions were implemented on a production scale. One of the AI projects initiated by my team has transformed the production landscape and is one of the most important ongoing developments at the plant. I was also responsible for driving important meetings daily and creating analysis reports on trends on various aspects of production.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learned important problem solving and technical skills due to various trainings i was given and mastered my team working skills being in the centre of important team sessions driving production, the skills i have learned are valuable traits in the industry and relevant to my degree discipline which will definitely be my skills for life.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was always supported by everyone in my office when needed and while the production environment is very busy and committed, you will not be left alone deserted and will instead be involved with the team on topics of high importance. Even though you are new to their old team, you never feel like it as everyone including yourself tries to get engrossed in the team from the start.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • You need to be committed from day 1 and show interest in any opportunity you my want to get involved with. You will be assigned responsibilities you would have to complete on a daily basis but to get the most out of the internship you will have to pay close attention to the ongoing/upcoming projects which are relevant to your degree discipline or interests. Everyone will be pleased to have you give your inputs and drive the future of production.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The BMW GROUP really cares for the future of the company and invests significantly on interns and graduates while making sure their knowledge is up to the standards in a production environment. I was enrolled on a training course for Python for Data Science and Machine Learning on Udemy for gaining relevant skills for my AI project on Vision Tools in assembly stations. I was also enrolled on an extremely valuable course for IATF 16949 Core Tools for Auditors Training including Problem Solving with my entire department. The training was held to understand Audit standards in depth and use learned tools in relevant production topics. I spent a week in a prototype lab for gaining relevant product knowledge of BMW engines, I learned the details about every engine part I have worked with in the past and present and gained a thorough understanding of how critical these parts are and the relevant care to be taken while working with them.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
