The Role
So far my placement has been an amazing experience, i've seen a lot of positive changes in myself especially in terms of the way I tackle situations and challenges. I have been able to experience every area of my role, whether it's finding exceptional talent, screening candidates, building relationships with candidates and being able to support them in their journey in the recruitment process. Being able to experience every aspect of recruitment is what made it so interesting!
One thing that Box is known for is its culture and working environment. My role required me to communicate with all the different teams including all the EMEA Leaders, and all the leaders treat everyone equally which shows how healthy and strong the working environment at Box is, which is exactly what a placement student needs.
My manager has supported me since day 1, therefore he is the main reason why I can say that I have been successful in my role so far. He has been a role model who has always supported me, is understanding, caring and always allows me to make mistakes so that I can learn from them. He has been the biggest motivator who makes sure that I don't give up. He has always made sure to build a relationship with me where we can both trust and rely on each other. Most importantly, he always asks me for my opinion / recommendation which shows me that my opinion is very much valued and respected in his eyes, which is something that I was really looking for in my placement search.
Depending on the time of the year, I had days where I was very busy and other days where I wasn't as busy. I personally very much enjoyed the busy periods as it allowed me to multitask and understand what and how to prioritize tasks. On days that were not so busy, it gave me a chance to focus on the few things and give it my best.
One of the best parts about doing a placement at Box is that you're given full responsibility. I not only had the responsibility to source candidates, screen them, co-host events, but also to build a trustful relationship with candidates and represent Box in the best way possible. My responsibility also entailed of making the candidate experience as smooth as possible.
Throughout my placement, I developed a variety of different skills, from being able prioritize all the way to being able to communicate effectively. My manager ensured that I had a smooth on-boarding where I was able to work with the placement student that I was going to replace for a month as her placement year was over, which really helped me settle in much quicker than expected. After she left, my Manager made sure to be there every step of the way so that I can understand how to best identify talent. I also learned from my team how to best present myself in a working environment, which is something i'll take with me.
The Company
The office is located in a beautiful modern building. There is also a rooftop and cafe that one can go to during breaks, we get free food and snacks as well. It is very informal, which makes it so easy to settle in and feel comfortable. Due to it being a tech company, Box uses very modern tools and services.
I had a very smooth on-boarding as the placement student that I replaced trained me for a month before she went back to uni. My team was very supportive and very organized, which really helped me settle in quickly. My manager had a whole on-boarding plan ready on my first day so that I knew what to expect in my first couple of weeks. The expectation and my responsibilities were laid out very clearly and therefore I knew exactly what my role entailed of.
My team really invested in my training, and made sure that I master one area first before I move on to the next area. This allowed me to take my own time to understand and learn the different platforms and services and familiarize myself with how people work. My manager would have regular meetings arranged with me for training sessions and would always keep track of how i'm doing and advise me if I had any difficulties.

As a member of the recruitment team, I was able to observe the constant mobility within the different teams as well as across the teams which shows that Box encourages every employee to grow in the company and explore different areas of interest. Therefore, the career progression is very visible within the company.
The Culture
We are currently two placement students and therefore we were able to build a very close friendship. However, the placement community will be growing next year as we have quite a few placement roles open for the next set of placement students. There are regular events and socials such as halloween party, christmas party, etc that are hosted by Boxers.
London is not very cheap, however it is definitely worth the experience. It is a very lively city with so much to do which is why over time you learn how to manage expenses and still have an amazing time. There is always something to do in London, especially because the office is based right in the center of London.
Box is located in Old Street, which is located in central London. I don't live in Old Street which is why I haven't experienced much of the Nightlife around that area, however I have been to quite a few interesting places as most of the work socials are hosted in places around the office. The office is surrounded by several bars, clubs and restaurants that one can visit after work.
Box has a very lively atmosphere at work as well as outside of work. We have 3 volunteer days where we get the chance to help the community in some way, there are also various groups that you can join to promote a certain cause or to develop a certain skill.
