About You
The team were really successful in making the insight day fun and interactive and gave us ample space to network with fellow attendees and learn more about what their firm do and how they fit in the industry. We were also able to speak to trainees which was very useful.
There was a very nice networking lunch where the trainees were really eager to give us help on how to get in to the industry and what their career path was like before they got in to the firm. This was really insightful and reassuring as not everyone’s path is straightforward.
We received a lot of guidance on the application process and overall it is a pretty generalised application so the HR team could have taken less time to go in to detail with the form and what to write. The team also failed to let attendees know that they run an insight scheme.
The insight day was extremely useful because it showed me how much I enjoy negotiations and how well I can pick out arguments given the information. I was unsure about whether or not I would still like to pursue a career in law but attending this day helped to reassure me.
The Company
Thé insight day was well structured and I believe we were given a layout of the day at the beginning of the session but it would have been nicer if we were able to start on time as there were not enough seats in the waiting area at the time.
The attendees were very nice to speak to and we all came from a different background so it was interesting to get to know people’s motivations for wanting to start a career in law. The trainees were also kind and was interested to know what we were doing currently and future plans.
This is not really applicable to the insight day. In terms of personal training and development I would say that the negotiation exercise could contribute to this because we learnt about the type of information we would be presented but we were not given proper feedback after this exercise took place.
We had mostly met with trainees who are still studying for things like the lpc and taking different seats so we only really learnt about negotiations so it would have been nice to get a general day to day as a trainee and what they might be sounds after they graduate.
I think the most helpful part was the firm tour but because it was close to Christmas, not many people were in which is unfortunate. Another thing that stood out was the lack of diversity and this was addressed during the insight day but I think it did put people off.
It was really helpful but it would have helped if we did more workshops so I could understand what more I would be expected to do as a lawyer because a lot of people struggle to get longer work experience so it would have been nice to discuss in future applications.
Everything Else
There was a lot of time to network during the lunch but there was not much space so it was hard to navigate around the room to speak to different people. It would have also been nice if they changed the tables that people were on so we could get to know other attendees.
We were shown an instagram page by two of the firms trainees were they document a day in the life of a trainee from client visits to their team sport activities which I found very interesting and unique to the firm. I think it’s nice to have something less formal.
