    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • my work placement has been an experience like no other. It has given me an insight into what working in a company is like. there are always some tasks which are not as desired and feel like a chore, but the majority of the time, I was able to use my skills to my best ability.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone in the company is great! they are helpful, friendly, and interested in my life, and who I am. I feel like this is very important as it allows them to understand who I am and hence the working experience becomes more important. it does indeed feel like a big family.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • when ever I need any sort of assistance, they are there to guide me through what ever needs to be done. They allow me to use my skills within the company in order to be able to learn more. The support is really great.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My days can get busy, but I make them that way to keep myself going throughout the day. Because we have many problem solving sessions on the shop floor, these take a lot of Time during the day, 2-3 hours, making the rest of the tasks to be done cramped into small time frames.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Initially the responsibility was not that much. I was given small tasks every now and again. But as the weeks went by, my jobs got more and more active, with many projects that I had to lead by the end of it. I was given tasks that were very interesting yet demanding too which allowed me to use my skills much more.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • although some of the jobs I carried out did not allow me to use my full potential of skills, as the months went by, especially on the problem solving side, I really felt as through I could use and improve the skills I have to the maximum.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • the atmosphere is generally calm and fun at the same time. With the door always open, my managers are very open with discussions, and I tend to also get involved in those. that said, I do not spend the majority of my day in the office.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • it could be improved. there were some aspects such as my work telephone which took ages to get to me as well as my initial user account which was not set up. these made the experience not that great but those points were eventually cleared out.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I am not 100% sure what is meant by this question, but from my understanding, personal training happened on a daily basis. I was always taught new things, in order to improve my overall experience.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Car

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • its hard to say as the job I was doing was not considered to be a full time job. But working with the people I worked with over the course of my internship, I would hands down work with them again for a longer period of time.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • social life was more between the placement students themselves. There was very little outside interaction with the rest of my team. we maybe had 1 or 2 dinners as a team but that's about it. a few more like that would have been nice.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • cost of living was at par. It was not too expensive, but not too cheap either. However socialising meant taking the bus for a good 10 minutes to get to where the really crowd was which wasn't great.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I personally did not go too much nightlife as I was far from the main crowd areas. Cannot comment but from what I've heard, it isn't too bad.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • once again I didn't venture out to try other activities, as I already had many planned out myself, such as driving classes etc. but there were some football groups which were created within the intern circle itself
