The Role
I had involvement in real-world projects, and the ability to make key decisions that improved the development of our product. I was working in a field that interests me, which is always helpful!
My voice was always heard and thoughts thoroughly considered. I felt like a very helpful and valued member of the team!
Guidance was always available when I asked for it, which was not infrequently!
Peaks and troughs, some days are very busy preparing for meetings, others are more quiet. It's a very dynamic environment to work in.
I was given two different New Product Development projects of my own for which key decisions were made by me. It was great to experience having this responsibility for some pretty big programs! I was of course able to ask for guidance where neeeded.
My presentation skills massively improved over the course of my time at SBD. This was a huge benefit to me going into my final year studies, where we were required to make frequent presentations to supervisors.
The Company
Good bit of banter and nice people. Good teamwork skills recommended, we help one another work toward our common goals.
Pretty good - there are now larger numbers of placement students at this office, and HR are keen to support the placement program, as well as the grad scheme. At the time, the handover period to the next placement student was only a week, but this has been extended so new students have time to settle in before taking the role on 100%
I had the fantastic opportunity to travel to France and Germany for internal meetings, and end user research. I was also able to attend meetings across the UK. There were also training weeks so new hires can get their hands on the tools and understand the product we make.

I am now working back with the company on the Stanley Leadership Program. The SLP consists of two rotations through roles in your home country, each 9-12 months long, followed by one rotation in another European country, 6 months long. There are 5 training weeks, and SLP's must complete these as well as a big project in order to graduate the program.
The Culture
There were weekly football games, though sports isn't really my thing. We also organised a couple of nights out but nothing major.
The majority of rented accommodation nearby is for working professionals, so even house shares are pretty expensive. There is very little Student housing. I would recommend Langley or Burnham if you want to live close by but not pay a fortune. Burnham is nicer, and a little closer. A pint in the local will run you £4.00-£5.50 depending on what you're drinking.
Slough isn't the best for nightlife, but Windsor and Reading (or Central London) are options for a night out. You can get the train to Reading very easily.
Some. We sometimes run community days where we help locals out with tools. We went to a school recently and did some renovation work for them.
