About You
I thought today's insight day was extremely valuable and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Given the circumstances we are under with COVID 19, I believe the team at EY have adapted greatly to making the programme virtually available to myself and the other students. The advice to take notes was excellent and I have plenty information to go forward with.
I felt very valued throughout this insight day with EY. Every single speaker involved gave the opportunity to allow students to either speak or type a question in the live chat with any questions, comments or worries. This allowed me to query topics I was previously unsure about, for which I now I have extensive answers!
There was lots of guidance and support available before and during the insight. Before hand I was supplied with thorough instructions on how to join the online network. And then during the insight programme we were given numerous opportunities to ask questions and announce any worries we had with what was being said.
The information and skills I have developed on this insight day will help me greatly moving forward. I have confirmed my thoughts of being interested in the area of tax and my interest in working for EY has heightened. This has given me more motivation to work hard in my university exams in order to set me on the right path!
The Company
Considering the circumstances we are under, the team at EY structured and adapted the insight day to an online format very admirably. All speakers very clear and essential to the programme in terms of each coming from a different background and each providing different information to the students and myself.
While the insight day unfortunately had to be on an online format rather than the offices down in London, the team at EY, as previously mentioned, adapted very well to this. I personally felt that there was a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere in which I was comfortable with asking questions and making comments on the information provided.
The company of EY have definitely invested in myself and the other candidates by providing us with the information necessary to fast track on towards a summer internship within tax. They also provided us with skills in the workplace and taught us how to feel more confident as a woman in the working world.
Each and every speaker from the EY Women in Business insight day described in depth what lead them to their role today and also what they do in their day to day life. It was also very interesting to hear what some of the panellist speakers see for themselves in the future of their role in the company.
With the insight day focussing on women in the workplace, the team at EY clearly identified the different programmes in place within the company whether that is the LGBT+ community or different races within the company. It assured me that EY take good care of their employees and everyone is included and well looked after.
I would say that the information provided today has greatly shaped my decision on my future career path. I currently study accounting and economics at university and today has confirmed that I am very interested in the area of tax, especially at a company like EY! Hopefully the Women in Business insight day can lead me to a summer internship and then hopefully a graduate job in the future.
Everything Else
I was not paid or reimbursed for this experience as it was online, therefore no expenses were made.
The Women in Business (Tax) insight day provided numerous opportunities for networking and the opportunity to meet various women within the tax department of EY. During the panel session, there were both managerial positions available to talk to and graduate students who have just completed their CA exams. This was great to get an insight into all aspects of EY as a company.
The networking and social event opportunities have been made very clear by the EY team. Each and every speaker was kind enough to provide us with their emails and LinkedIn profiles in order for future contact. We have also got the opportunity to take part in an activity on LinkedIn using the Women in Tax EY hashtag.
The various speakers did tell us about their lives and the different branches of EY that they have worked for. I was very interested in hearing about the opportunities to travel and go abroad that some of the women had. Working in a different country is something I am very interested in and it was great to get so much insight on the process of working abroad with EY.
I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone I spoke to. I went in with limited knowledge about tax within a large company and also limited knowledge on how a company like EY work and operate. I believe it has been a great stepping stone towards a summer internship and then hopefully a graduate job with EY.
