About You
I attended the Women in Consulting event which, unfortunately due to the COVID-19 outbreak, took place online. I was impressed with how EY managed to make it all digital but still very useful. It definitely gave me good insight into the firm, how it operates, into consulting in general and the next steps available.
Although it was a virtual event and we had our microphones and cameras off so we did not get to meet each other properly, I still felt like I could be listened to through the chat window.
We received a lot of advice about how to build on our strengths, our personal brand, how to continue working on our careers, fight the imposter syndrome and build our confidence, etc.
It was only a one day event so it is impossible to develop very significant skills we did not possess before, but it was definitely useful nevertheless. We got a chance to think about when we felt as outsiders and how we could tackle it, how to build our confidence and work on our strenghts, and all of these will be useful in my degree and beyond.
The Company
The insight was very well structured, especially considering that it had to be moved online relatively last minute. It took place over Microsoft teams where we had panel discussions and a lot of opportunities to ask questions. It began at 9am and ended around 16 which is ideal for someone in the UK or a similar timezone. However, I feel like it would have been good to offer a second time option for somebody who had to return home to a place further away with a significant time zone difference, although I do understand that it would be harder organizationally.
This is a bit difficult to judge as the event was held virtually so there was no face to face contact but the atmosphere was still friendly. All of the speakers were very friendly and sounded helpful, and they said that they would be willing to answer any further questions in the future, which is very nice of them.
It was only a one day event and done distantly so this is hard to judge
I feel like seeing women working at different positions and ranks was very helpful in helping us imagine what it would be like to work there. We also got a chance to talk about the type of work conducted in the different service lines and to compare them, which helped us choose what would be appropriate for us.
It was definitely helpful in seeing what makes it different from similar companies, what events it holds for its employees, etc.
It was helpful in seeing what life at EY is like and what kind of work their consultants engage in.
Everything Else
I was actually not paid or reimbursed anything as the event had to take place online due to COVID-19 but initially the travel expenses were supposed to be covered and accommodation was to be provided for those who live more than an hour and half away from the London EY office.
This is hard since it was digital, but we were encouraged to contact the speakers by email/on LinkedIn after the event if we want to ask anything after the event.
We did not have any, but I understand that since it was a 1 day digital event.
Yes, about some events for the special networks (like women's networks, LGBTQ+ etc).
I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get an insight into consulting/EY.
