About You
I really enjoyed the insight. It enabled me to gain a feel for the company environment and people, as well as being given a lot of information about opportunities. The women speakers were very inspirational, and hearing about their journeys has helped me clarify the area i would like to work in. Unfortunately the event was virtual rather than in person so I was unable to directly engage with speakers however the chat function still enabled my questions to be answered
As the event was virtual and only lasted a day, there was little interaction whereby we could gain feedback. The speakers were however very positive in saying we had made it this far, and the idea of being fast tracked to a summer internship is a very exciting prospect, that made you feel valued for having completed the application process.
I was provided with a lot of advice surrounding future employment prospects within the firm, which was very useful. When outlining the possible areas within consulting it may have been helpful to go into detail about what each role involves to ensure I make the correct decision however I understand there were time constraints.
It helped reinforce the fact that i wish to go into a career within the consulting industry, and with EY. As i do no know which area within consulting specifically I interested in, i think it would've been helpful to have had a representative from each department who could've answered my specific questions, however I understand why this may not have been possible.
The Company
I thought the insight was structured very well, the information was provided in a logical format and followed on from each-other. It would've been helpful if the panel session had been slightly longer to ensure more questions were answered, however i am aware this already took up a significant amount of time and if the event had been in person, there may have been the opportunity to ask more questions over lunch.
There was a very positive atmosphere during the event. Despite the event being virtual all the representatives were very engaging, insightful and friendly. This reinforced a friendly atmosphere feel, which made me really want to work for the company. It would've been nice to be able to see some of the speakers as they were speaking instead of just listening to them, to enhance engagement.
As the event was virtual, I dont think this I can answer this question fully. If it had gone ahead at the London office however, I believe the fact that EY reimbursed travel expenses made you feel very valued and like that they really wanted you to work for them, emphasising that they are prepared to invest in you. Learning that with the graduate programmes there would be the opportunity to complete professional accounting qualifications further shows this.
As the event was virtual, i unfortunately didn't get to fully experience this as i feel like having been in the EY offices would have enabled you to get a full feel for the company and how you would be working on a day to day basis. however the speakers were all very friendly and describing their job roles gave me a brief feel of the working environment.
As the event was virtual i believe this could've been improved. However the speakers all presented themselves very well and were very interesting to listen to, and describing how they work on a day to day basis and the social and network opportunities available outside the day to day job role, gave me a feel of how it would be like to work for the firm.
It helped reinforce that i want to go into the consultancy industry after i graduate. i think it would have been very useful to have had representatives from all the different consultancy areas within EY however i understand this may not have been possible. it may also have been helpful to outline the different consultancy areas within EY at the start of the day, within a brief description of each.
Everything Else
As the event was virtual, i was not paid or reimbursed, however this personally was not necessary, as it was only a day event providing information to me to help me in my future career. If the event had gone ahead as planned my travel and accommodation expenses would have been reimbursed, which i believe EYs willingness to invest in their employees.
Whilst I was able to listen to speakers from a wide area of job roles within the business, unfortunately i was not able to network with them one on one, which i think would have been very helpful. i do however understand that this would not have been possible due to the virtual format of the event.
As the event was virtual, there were unfortunately no opportunities to do this, and whilst disapointing, i understand why this was not possible. I was however able to listen to speakers from a wide area of job roles within the business, which was very insightful and able to ask them questions but was unable to see their body language whilst responding.
Yes! i found out about the large variety of events that take place within EY, that i can get involved in outside of work. there are a large number of networks that hold events through out the year, and the working environment seems to be very social, from the impression i was given from speakers.
I would definitely recommend this insight. It gave me a feel for the people working at EY and a brief insight to the working culture, which i found very impressive. i also was able to learn a lot about the consulting sector specifically, confirming this is the sector i wish to go into after i have graduated.
