About You
It was really enjoyable, mainly because the day was packed with a huge variety of information which was given from a range of different employees at EY. Even though there was a vast amount of information it was also thorough and in-depth. After the event I really felt I had a much better understanding of the company.
The fact that this Discover EY event was even running with the current outbreak of Covid-19 meant that I felt valued before it even began. To transform an insight day into a virtual event, involving several staff from all over the UK would have taken a lot of time and effort. As a result we as participants felt valued and that the EY recruitment team really cared about the success of the event.
The fact that the event was virtual meant that there may not have been the same level of guidance compared to if the event was still held in the London office as there could be no one to one interaction. Nonetheless, we were given clear instructions prior and during the event and any issues were swiftly solved.
The confidence and resilience skills that were discussed during the event are life skills which will help me from this point on in my everyday life, let alone in my degree and future career. The more specific information that we received about being successful in EY is also invaluable and I believe will help me in my future career.
The Company
The insight was very well structured and organised. There were clear and specific segments to the day which meant that we knew what to expect and what topics would be covered from the various speakers. The event being virtual meant that there was a lack of one on one discussion but this is something that couldn't really be avoided as we were unable to meet in person.
There was a really friendly and welcoming atmosphere during the virtual event. Obviously, not meeting and interacting in person meant that the atmosphere was limited. Nonetheless, all of the speakers and leaders were really relaxed and chatty which created a easy atmosphere where you felt comfortable to learn and contribute without being nervous or intimidated.
The Discover EY event put all of the attendees at an advantage as we got to hear first hand from the recruitment team and successful employees how to go about applying to EY and what makes a successful employee. This shows the firms investment in us as they helped to increase our chances of success.
Hearing from so many current employees who all work in different locations and departments helped to illustrate and contrast different roles within the first which gave us a better understanding of what each role would actually be like. However, not being able to see the offices and experience the atmosphere within the offices limited my understanding of what a role at EY would actually be like.
I believe the insight portrayed the companies culture to a great extent. Firstly because of the employees that ran the event and that we heard from. They were all down to earth, talkative and approachable. Secondly, the effort put into creating the virtual event illustrates the culture at EY and the resilience which its employees obtain.
The information I received will be invaluable in helping me decide my future career path. We were able to hear from employees from several different areas and also from niche departments which revealed roles that I didn't know existed. This was eye opening and will enable me to decide what role I believe I am best suited to.
Everything Else
The event was virtual so there was nothing to be reimbursed.
Sadly, the Coronavirus outbreak meant that the event was virtual and therefore networking was limited. Nonetheless enthusiastic employees encouraged us to network with them on LinkedIn and there was a large number of employees involved in talking to us so the opportunity to network after the event remains prominent.
Like above, the fact that the event was virtual meant that this aspect of the Discover EY event were limited. Nonetheless we were able to communicate with other attendees on the chat function and ask speakers questions throughout the day. We have the opportunity to network after the event with employees and other attendees via social platforms such as LinkedIn.
Yes, especially the Women's Network which explained many different events which are put on throughout the country in various offices. This shows that EY cares about their employees welfare and work/life balance whilst also offering the opportunity to get involved in something completely new.
Yes. Attending this event only benefits you as you get to hear from multiple successful business women who only want the best for you. The amount of advice that was given was huge and something which couldn't simply be obtained from a website.
