The Role
I felt I came away with a much greater understanding of the role of technology within investment banks. I also got a great impression of the work culture at RBS and feel that I would thoroughly enjoy working in that type of environment.
As this was only an insight week, we didn't have any long-term colleagues, but we did shadow some recent grads who were very friendly and understanding of our situation.
There were several talks to teach us the basics. We also had a simulation day, which was really useful and allowed us to practice the skills we'd just learned. All of the grads did a great job of showing us what they do on a daily basis and some of their recent projects.
The hours were very reasonable; around 8 hours a day.
We weren't very involved at all, but this was expected as it was only a spring insight week.
This programme has taught me a great deal about the importance of teamwork and has helped me to see my weaknesses and how I can improve.
The Company
I had four rotations (split over 2 days) so I didn't exactly get a great sample size. The offices all seemed to have a reasonable relaxed atmosphere, which made it feel very comfortable. Upon entering the trading floor the tension on the floor was immediately noticeable; a huge contrast compared to the tech offices.
For one week I felt that we did get a considerable amount done and things went reasonably smoothly.
There wasn't really enough time to issue personal training and development, it was mainly group work.

Company Parties/Events
I would really like to go back and be part of the team. I left the insight programme with a great impression of the workplace.
The Culture
RBS setup evening events on two out of the five days and there was always something to do with other students on any of the other nights as we were all put in apartments.
London's not exactly cheap, but I didn't expect it to be.
Again, it's London - you can't exactly ask for a better nightlife.
We didn't spend enough time there to really know what activities were available.
