About You
It was really useful to hear from multiple personnel and gain such a comprehensive insight into the company, its core values, how particularly the Transaction service line works and the multiple sub-services within that division as well as to discover the several non-work related network they have formed and the events these hold.
Each person that spoke to us seemed to be very open to helping us progress further in our careers and were very welcoming with us, especially encouraging us to ask as many questions to them as possible - they also prompted us to keep in touch even after the event was over.
They were very organised and helpful in ensuring the event still went ahead to as great a capacity as possible despite it having to go ahead virtually due to the current pandemic situation.
We were given great tips and advice about how to succeed in the application process for further placements including the summer internship for the next year. There was a session on building confidence as well which helped to keep us motivated and assured in being more proud of our 'personal brand' when pursuing opportunities.
The Company
It was very well arranged especially considering the circumstances meaning it had to be done online. All sessions were held as promptly as possible and there were no problems with everyone being able to interact and fully access all that the insight had to offer.
The sessions were very informative and they were tried to be kept as interactive as possible while being virtual. All of the speakers were positive, helpful and interesting so despite having to be in a more unusual environment than it normally would have been in, it was still enjoyable to experience.
They tried to help us as much as possible in terms of giving us beneficial advice to progress in our personal growth after having finished the insight day. There were opportunities to find out how to improve our soft skills and reflect on our strength which will help us in future applications.
The panel that participated in the Q & A as well as some of the other speakers provided us with a great outlook into their job roles and what could be expected from working in the Transactions service line. It was helpful to hear about the experience of working on a range of tasks within a such a diverse environment.
The awareness gained about EY's stance on diversity and inclusion among their other core values was very beneficial as it may not be obvious to applicants just how supportive and inclusive the company are of all their employees. Many of the people we heard from also felt that the culture of the firm was one of the main things that they love about working there.
It was very relevant as it allowed me to further establish how interested I am in pursuing a career in the industry and specifically EY itself after hearing from employees about why they enjoy working at the firm as well as the wide range of opportunities available to progress in your career.
Everything Else
They had given us extensive information and help in booking travel/accommodation beforehand as the event would have been held physically and they also would have reimbursed us of any travel expenses that we had to get to the event. However, as the event occurred online this was no loner needed.
Due to a physical event not being able to be held they gave us many opportunities to ask questions to the employees both throughout the day and after as we were also encouraged to do so after the event to the recruitment team and other employees via email or LinkedIn.
It was not really possible for any opportunities for extensive networking or social events to go ahead in the same format as the event had to end up being held virtually instead but networking/emailing, with all of the employees who spoke to us, after the event was encouraged throughout the day.
We were greatly informed of the multiple networks that are run by employees for employees that hold many of both internal and external events. These networks included those for: faith, race, women, etc. There is also a charity that employees volunteer for as well as social events that are held.
It was an extremely informative and beneficial opportunity with advice and guidance from several helpful employees. There is also an opportunity to be fast-tracked in the application for an internship/industrial placement in the next year. Overall, I gained help to improve my skills and improve my understanding of the firm as a whole which will be essential for my future career progression.
