The Role
My work placement with Groupe Renault was hugely enjoyable. I have had the opportunity to work with many different people both in the office as well as people from different countries. I learnt a lot whilst working with the team and I also had the opportunity to work on a huge variety of projects.
The team I worked with were incredibly welcoming and valued me as an employee. I was never asked to do any stereotypical intern jobs and was involved in huge projects. I was always trusted with my work and was never second guessed on my judgement. They treated me like i had been there years. They also made work fun.
My boss was very supportive especially in the beginning of my placement when I was still new and learning. Even now I can still ask questions and be given help without any judgement. There is no expectation that you should be an expert in everything. They were all really understanding.
I was never bored and never too stressed out about my job. The team I work with were supportive and allowed me to complete tasks at my own pace. Of course there was a need to have the tasks done by specific times but they always asked if I needed help. I was always given tasks I was interested in and made sure the deadlines worked around my existing work.
For an intern I was given a lot of responsibility. There is no jobs that I have been given that are meaningless. It is a good mixture of jobs that I share a responsibilities with and things that are my sole responsibility that i am the only one in the team that knows how to do it.
Going on this placement has helped develop my skills hugely. I am now more confident in my own abilities as you are thrown into working. I've developed hugely beneficial skills such as Excel which is essential in any career as well as organisational skills. I thought i was already organised but working takes a step up.
The Company
The department I worked with are really fun and even though we do a lot of work it's still fun. Everyone is very supportive of the work that you do and your work is recognised which is really encouraging. Nobody is discouraging about you do and it has really helped with my confidence.
The start of the placement was really well organised. I got to visit Renault Head Office two weeks before I started my placement which allowed me to meet the team and made the process less scary. Renault has had lots of interns previously and it is shown by the organisation of us starting.
I was able to go on different training events to see the products and meet some of the dealer network and to different product launches. Renault also encouraged LinkedIn learning and the department also encouraged Excel training.

Renault offer a really appealing graduate scheme which allows you to experience different areas of the business. This hugely beneficial as it means you get to see what areas interest you. It is also easy to see the value that the graduates bring to the business and how valued they are.
The Culture
Renault employs a large group of interns so you get to experience this with other people. It is a great opportunity to go out all together. The team often goes out for lunch and the team meetings are a really good opportunity to get to know each other outside a work environment.
I didn't live in the area of around where I worked but of course it is near London so it isn't cheap housing or socialising. However, as you are getting paid it makes it easier to balance your finances. I would recommend living near to work as you can save money on things such as Petrol.
As we are located near to London and have easy access the city via the tube it means that plans are really easy to make with endless options for nights out. Even if you don't necessarily live near lots of the interns do and you can often work out staying there after a night out.
They really encourage getting involved with different things outside of work. They have opportunities such as after work Yoga and football. They really encourage the interns get involved and are open to anyone joining. At Christmas we got to decorate the office and it was a lovely way to get us feeling festive as well as seeing everyone's creative save.
