The Role
My placement at SAP was thoroughly enjoyable and probably one of the best experiences I could have asked for. The wide variety or opportunities while on placement and beyond has shown SAP to be a company that cares highly about their interns and ensure that the year is the most enjoyable and rewarding it could be.
I felt really valued by my colleagues. When joining SAP you immediately feel valued by your colleagues and are treated like a full term team member. Everyone in the team wants your experience to be the best it possibly can be and therefore will value you you in a way that ensures it will be.
The amount of support and guidance I received throughout my placement was incredible. From work to personal issues, the sheer amount of places and people you could speak to, to ask for guidance from was amazing and showed you that the company really cares about your overall placement experience, both work and non-work related.
The amount of work to do on a day to day basis definitely varied and while there were certain tasks that had to be done everyday, the variety meant that you were always learning new things. There are also so many extra things for you to get involved with within the company so you are largely in control of how busy you are on a daily basis.
At SAP, because you are treated like a full time member of the company, you are given so much responsibility, from working on your own accounts to running your own projects. This allows you to be in control of what you get out of your placement, ensuring it is the most rewarding it can be.
The skills I learnt are and will be valuable to everything I do. Whatever skills you want to learn, whether its presentation skills or how to use excel, there is a way that SAP will find for you to learn these skills and therefore allows you to apply them later in life. You learn so many skills throughout placement, some you didn't even know you had, and many of them will be invaluable in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is extremely open and relaxed. There isn't really a hierarchical structure in the office and everyone in very approachable, at every level of the business. There is also a more relaxed atmosphere on Friday's and sometimes there are treats and other things going on the office to get involved in.
The placement itself was very well organised with two week onboarding period to allow us to settle in and learn the basics while also getting to know our teams. Once in our teams we had a constant support system to help us learn more skills or help with any problems.
The company was always willing to invest in you if you showed interest by providing extra learning, both online and face to face. There were also many opportunities to get involved in different activities that would help you to personally develop as well as learn valuable skills that could be used later in your career.

The prospects within the organisation are very appealing with multiple opportunities and directions back into the business. They allow for part time work after your placement as well as offering grad jobs and the chance to apply for academies which allow you to get an even more in depth look into the business.
The Culture
The social scene at SAP is great with many opportunities to socialise. The intern cohort always make an effort to organise social events, commonly drinks/nights out once a week, and then extra events on weekends. Around Christmas, the social events increase and depending on your team you also get the chance to go out and socialise with them.
The cost of living is quite high, but can be covered by your salary and can always be made easier by moving in with other students from your placement - a good way to save some money and bond. As quite a few people have to travel, there are many options to reduce travel costs. Socialising can be expensive but as there are so many different locations and bars/restaurants, you don't have to break the bank to socialise.
The nightlife varies with plenty of different locations. There are more relaxed options such a clubs and bars in Putney, Richmond and Clapham. But living close to the center of London allows you to vary where you go and gives the opportunity to travel to different parts of London and experience different nightlifes.
There are opportunities to get involved with other activities such as sports teams, gym challenges and CSR days. I took part in a CSR day where we were able to help and feed the homeless. There are many options and with the flexibility there is, there is always the option to start sometimes if there is something you want to offer.
