The Role
This placement has been amazing. I have not only developed professionally, but also matured personally. In my opinion no other internship offers you as much exposure as SAP. They do really believe that interns add value to their teams and therefore are willing to get you involved with everything. Not only the exposure to sales cycles and client meetings, but the support throughout the placement is great.
I am considered as another colleague and part of the team. I obviously cannot deliver certain projects on my own behalf as I am an intern and do not have enough experience but they always want me to make the most of this year and always try and include me in as many different opportunities as possible.
I always had the support of my manager for all the opportunities I wanted to be involved with. However, I did find a lot of support from the Placement Program team as they know a vast amount of contacts within SAP and can redirect you to achieve what you wanted. Also, I found a lot of support in different personas around the company that I had build a very good relationship with.
Despite sounding very cliche, my day to day varies and no week is the same. I find being in sales is never boring as there is a vast amount of projects you can get involved in. I have found it very cyclical, being very quiet one week and super busy the next.
This has definitely increased during my placement as I have gained more knowledge and gained the trust of my team and other people across SAP. Despite being in Sales team, I have worked closely with Marketing and I am now in charge of organising a webinar to drive pipeline, for instance.
In my view is not so much the training I received, from being exposed to real business. Here at SAP we try and make other organisations "run" better through our software, so you get a real understanding of business challenges and pain points which will be very useful when going back to university for my last year. It really does open your eyes from all the knowledge learned at university. However, i have been given a lot of training from product to partner enablement.
The Company
The atmosphere is the office is great. Everyone is happy to help and "no question is a silly question" ethos. I am based in Central London and there are a lot of social events outside the office, but also events during office hours such as CSR cake sale. From my experience, the office environment is one of the most friendliest I have experienced so far.
The first two weeks of induction are tremendously helpful. The Placement Program team had it very structured through sessions where we learned about SAP and its products and basic sales training to give us a basic foundation for the rest of the 13 months. However, I felt that the rest of the internship was really based on me to structure. For instance, using my initiative and finding what opportunities I could get involved in and how i can add value to the team. Yet, we have just started the Sales Foundation 12 week course which I am very excited about.
SAP invest a lot of time in you if they believe you are worth it. I have been involved in numerous training sessions to expand my knowledge and support the team better. For instance, I had the chance to got to SAP Berlin for a 2 day training course on Market Development! Also, the Placement Program team is always in touch with the intern cohort. For instance, they are now delivering weekly sessions focused on our personal growth e.g. how to build a personal brand.

Working from home
It would be amazing to get a job in SAP after I graduate. I think it is a company that values it's employees and this is shown through different initiatives e.g. working from home if needed. I am not sure whether I would come back straight away, but definitely stay within the SAP ecosystem such as one of the Big 4.
The Culture
My intern cohort is amazing. We are 77 interns this year and we all get along! Of course, you become closer to some people than others based on your role/how often you see them. However, we always hosted a social night on Thursdays and it was very nice to get involved in these. If you are not in the clubbing scene, we always spend time together at lunchtime, sit in the games room after lunch or go for a coffee for a catch-up!
I was lucky enough to be able to live at home whilst on placement, saving myself a lot of money on rent. However, being based in London you accept the fact that socialising events (e.g. go out for drinks) might be slightly more expensive than other areas of England.
Personally I have not gone out to many clubs around London but I can definitely say it has the nicest bars and pubs. London's after work drinks nights are Wednesday and Thursday and it is always very busy and with a good atmosphere! It is nice to unwind from a busy day at work by having a drink with your team/inters.
Yes. In terms of the intern cohort, there are lots of nights out and days out. Also, in my office at Central London there are event organised by the team such as Christmas party, Halloween, afternoon out in the park...you can get involved in a lot of activities and also help organise them.
