The Role
I have had such an amazing year at SAP, and in SAP Concur specifically, working in the Product Marketing department. The experience has been invaluable for personal and professional development - I was lucky enough to go to Seattle for SAP Concur's annual conference (Ignite 2020) where I had the opportunity to meet my global team along with many other people in various parts of the business. This was an experience I did not anticipate having on my placement year but I was extremely grateful!
I definitely felt valued by my colleagues, particularly within my team. Sometimes you feel as an intern that your voice will not be heard or simply ignored, however this is not the case at SAP. You also have the support of being part of a large intern cohort - this worked to my advantage on many occasions when I needed to reach out to people in different areas of the business.
Throughout my placement I have had constant support and guidance from not only my manager but also my buddy, who was assigned to me at the start of the year. I have weekly meeting with my manager and Bi-weekly meetings with my buddy but of course I could message either of them whenever I needed support or a question answering.
I think like most intern my work had peaks and troughs but there are rarely times when I have felt 'swamped' with my workload. I work very closely with my manager to ensure that I always have projects on the go so my workload has been very consistent. Only when I have taken on stretch projects did I feel like i had a lot of work to do but again, it was essential that I was transparent with my manager to manage this.
I have been blown away with the level of responsibility I was given on my placement than what i expected to get. From organising and running assessment centres, to taking on work from someone on maternity leave. You really do get real responsibility at SAP and particularly in my role - its been something that's really helped me gain confidence and trust my decisions.
Skills such as time management, general organisation and excel skills are definitely skills that I can take back to university and transfer in to my studies next year. But the skills I have developed from being in a corporate environment, have made me feel so much more prepared to enter the world of work when I start my career after university.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the offer was generally really great - it would quite often change from a Monday to Friday. In the line of business that I have been working in for the past year, there was always a great sense of community, particularly when a deal was closed and they would ring the bell!
The overall placement scheme was set up really well - from the induction day, on-boarding process and many other events, there was always a sense that you are part of the wider intern community. A fundraising project was set up and run by interns for the charity student minds and it has been really great to be part of the planning phase for this.
There are so many opportunities for training and development at SAP. At the 6 month mark of our placements a survey was completed to establish the areas where interns felt they wanted to develop further or needed more support. As a result of this i have been able to take part in training for my two main areas of development; excel and presentation training.

Extremely appealing in my opinion - I have been so fortunate with the team that I am in and the experience that I have had, it would feel like such a shame to not consider a future with the company. My placement year has been an invaluable experience and it was be amazing to start my career here after university.
The Culture
There is a really great social scene amongst the intern community. We tend to meet for drinks every week or every other week and we have been to events such as the horse races, rugby matches and bottomless brunches! I have also lived with 3 other interns this year which has been really great if I wanted to go out and explore London at the weekends.
I opted to live in Clapham Junction with three other interns and it has not come without its costs. It is around £650 to £700 a month in rent with about a 30-40 minute commute to work, but I would definitely say it is worth it if you are looking for somewhere fun to live - lots of students graduate and moved to this area of London so always lots going on.
There are great links into central london from the Feltham offices and it is only a 25 minute train into London Waterloo so there are plenty of options. A popular place with the interns is Richmond which is only a 15 minute train from feltham which is also a great night out!
There were a few sporting opportunities outside of work such as football but within the intern community there were always activities being organised such as trips to football and rugby matches, crazy golf, horse races, christmas parties etc. It can definitely be said that there is always some sort of activity to get involved in.
