The Role
I enjoyed working with fellow engineers; like minded, motivated and creative individuals. it has worked as an opportunity to gauge how I measure up to the industry and a experience with many lessons.
I had a role, and responsibilities. Leading my own minor projects and contributing to company wide projects. I felt that my voice was valued, and the longitudinal waves I produced did not go unheard. I had my fair share of constructive criticism suggesting my colleagues helped nurture my development as an engineer.
My supervisor has offered support in my work & personal endeavors. has offered a sense of stability and as a voice of reason on which I relied. I was allocated tasks and progress of my work place development was tracked through development matrices and catch-up meetings.
On a daily basis I had a reasonable amount of work. The work load varied as a function of project size, time restrains and importance. I never felt overloaded and in-between project there are always process improvement tasks.
I worked on a variety of project which customers are/will use. When working on my own project I was a point of contact, reported and presented findings. I was in the loop, towards the end of my placement I was held as accountable as other employees.
This placement has offered a fundamental understanding of process work, and an abundance of soft skills some being working in a team, interdepartmental work, assertiveness and the most important one which I feel will benefit me the most being emotional intelligence. Which means the ability to effectively communicate with others, conveying information and interpreting them. I have also worked with a variety of software's/hardware which I can apply to my own studies.
The Company
It was relaxed, professional and friendly.
Fairly well, I had come into an environment which are venturing uncharted ground so this was a learning curve for me and the company.
I was not part of any extra extracurricular activity.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
There are many other departments which I could see myself sprout into. With the range of projects and the company's industry status, these are appealing prospects.
The Culture
In the beginning there was involvement, but as I felt we didn't have a lot in common it was hard to find similar interests.
It was fairly cheap, lived in a shared house, friendly neighbors. in general Weymouth is a cheap, local takeaways were over priced.
Poor.
Yes, required a bit of research and contacting people but similar to anywhere in the world there is always people who are interested in similar things to you.
