The Role
I enjoyed the amount of responsibility I was given at Golfbreaks.com, as well as the many new experiences and skills I was given. I also really enjoyed the young and social environment at the company, in which I made many friends. The company arranged many social events and made sure that all the placements settled in well!
At Golfbreaks.com, they make sure that as a placement student you very much don't feel like one! In the sense that the way you are treated by everyone at the company is the same as if you were a full-time employee of the company. I also enjoyed that the company would listen to the students and try to fulfil any experiences they wanted to have.
The management team is very well structured and you never feel as if there's no one to turn to. At the start and throughout my time at Golfbreaks.com I was given great training accompanied by the HR team who were organised and swift in their actions to help solve any issues.
A day at Golfbreaks.com is very busy as for most growing businesses. Very rarely would I be looking for something to do even when I didn't have a major project to focus on as there was always something to do! Also, the longer I was at Golfbreaks.com, the more responsibility I was given and, therefore, I was even busier with harder tasks.
I was given great responsibility from the start of the placement, with the task of putting up a new location to sell on the website within the first couple of weeks. From then on I was given further responsibility launching more important and harder pages to the website along with the responsibility of posting to the company's social media channels with a combined following of 60,000 people.
The knowledge, experiences and skills I have gained through the placement will greatly help with my final year of studies. However, the thing I will take most from the placement will be the growth in my confidence and strong work ethic. I have also learnt new ways of approaching tasks and reports that I can take into my final year's assessments.
The Company
The office atmosphere was very lively with the contact centre being at the epicentre of the office creating a bustling environment. In the back office, the departments were a little quieter but still have that friendly chatty feel to it. I also enjoyed the open door policy as I always felt I could speak to anyone in the office if I needed to. There was also often small events to look forward to most weeks!
From the recruitment process to the training to the final months of the placement you could tell the placement has been well organised for many years. The only small issue I had was that I couldn't attend some of the pre-placement events due to my university exams, it would have been good to have attended them to meet the placements before we started.
The company invested a lot of time into my personal development with regular catch-ups and well planned out self-evaluation meetings. I was often asked if wanted to experience anything at Golfbreaks which I wouldn't be able to do had I not been doing the placement, in which they listened and allowed me to get involved in.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
I love the company and its ethos, it is a great place to work with a friendly set of staff, in which I am friends with many of them. However, for me personally, I would prefer the location of the office to be in a city centre, especially with it already being far from my current home.
The Culture
Yes at Golfbreaks.com there are many young staff members and 20 other placements meaning there was always someone to go out for a drink with or to chat to if you needed it. The placements and full-time staff also often mixed, with drinks on Fridays being very popular after a busy week!
Windsor is a great location and is very scenic, therefore the standard living is quite high and in turn, so are the prices. However, compared to other parts of the country and London the cost of living is cheaper or similar to other nice areas. Also, with help from parents and the wage I never really struggled for money.
Windsor is great for pubs and small bars, however, I wouldn't go on a night out there as I didn't really enjoy the crowds or clubs there. However, with London only a 30-minute train away I would often enjoy what the capital city had to offer in regards to nightlife as I had a few friends there!
There was a good number of activities to participate in at Golfbreaks.com including the obvious golf. There were also other sporting activities such as cricket, football and basketball on a weekly and yearly basis. I also enjoyed how much effort the company put into charitable events which occurred regularly in the office.
