About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the virtual Citi Spring Insight programme. The whole week was full of engaging and informative sessions, from motivational talks from employees of the bank, to interactive case studies for different divisions. It is clear that the team who organised the programme really worked hard to make it so amazing.
I felt really valued as a Spring Intern at the firm, especially considering the circumstances and that the whole programme had to be done virtually. The people who led the programme made a huge effort to get to know the cohort and interact with us on a more personal level.
I received a lot of guidance during the insight programme. From the first day we were told how the online platform was to work and what we were to expect as virtual interns. We could ask questions at any point and the employees would always make an effort to answer them and provide us with the support we needed.
With the programme being virtual, I think that the skills we developed were to do with perseverance and the ability to make the most out of a situation, which are required both in your degree studies and in your career. I would say having a virtual programme also helped us become better listeners and absorbers of information.
The Company
The insight programme was very well structured, we had a detailed introductory session at the start which let us know what to expect and gave us a deeper understanding of what Citi does. The timetable was very well planned out, with regular breaks, a time-slot for lunch and interactive sessions.
The atmosphere during the insight was extremely positive throughout. To be in the middle of such a difficult period and still have the opportunity to carry on with the programme put everyone in great spirits. Everyone we got to hear from was also extremely positive and so were the other interns!
The firm invested heavily in us. They delivered useful sessions such as how to ace our Assessment Centre, took us through an IBD case study and gave us the opportunity to attend more Markets & Securities focused technical trading through an external company - Amplify Trading, which was extremely useful.
The insight really helped me understand what to expect if I were to land a full time role there. Employees from all the divisions were really transparent about their roles, what they entailed and the working culture. The case study especially was very helpful as it provided a snapshot of some of the work analysts carry out.
From the virtual insight programme, I was able to glean a good idea of what Citi's company culture was like. It is one built on its people and helping those not only on your team but everyone who may need it. The people there are extremely supportive of each other.
It was extremely helpful as the sessions that spanned across the different divisions also gave a lot of insight into what the different roles in that specific division are. People who worked in these roles happily answered all of our questions such as what a typical day looks like for them.
Everything Else
The programme was done virtually therefore there was no need to get reimbursed.
There were plenty of opportunities for networking virtually. On the first day we had a Q&A panel with Spring Week alumni who now have full time roles at Citi. We also had the chance to have a video call with the EMEA BCMA Chief of staff and the Investment Banking and Capital Markets programme manager.
Since everything was done virtually, this was a lot harder to achieve, but there were still quite a few opportunities. Undoubtedly, if the programme was carried out in person, I am sure we would have had many networking and social event opportunities.
Yes, it was a recurring question and many of the speakers got asked this when it came to Q&A time at the end of the sessions. The employees had a diverse range of hobbies, some within Citi such as certain networks and volunteering, and others like things they do in their spare time.
I would highly recommend this insight week with Citi to a friend. I found the whole experience from the very beginning with the application an extremely positive experience. The virtual insight programme was excellent and a very informative whilst also being a lot of fun. I hope to meet everyone in person soon!
