About You
I really enjoyed the Spring Insight Program: the sessions were informative and interesting and the recruiters are approachable and friendly. Even though the Program had to be conducted virtually rather than face-to-face due to COVID-19 pandemic, I still felt like I have received a valuable insight into the culture and work at UBS.
It would definitely feel more "personal" had the format been the usual face-to-face one but it was impossible through no fault of the firm (due to the pandemic). But the recruiters are incredibly friendly and trainees and senior employees were very keen on sharing their experience and help us better understand the work of different divisions of UBS and did their best to answer any questions we had and explain anything that wasn't clear.
The recruiters [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] were amazing! They're approachable, friendly and are genuinely interested in providing the best possible insight into UBS; they did a great job transferring the Program to an online platform due to the lockdown, stayed in touch with all of us before the start and during the Program and were helpful in resolving any technical issues anyone had.
I have learned a great deal about the firm and received many valuable tips for developing different transferable skills which would be incredibly useful when applying for an Internship or a Graduate Programme at UBS, useful for my studies and in general (skills such as commercial awareness, attention to detail and creativity).
The Company
The Insight Program was very well-structured and organised, with time dedicated to different departments and included "warm-up" activities for the first day. I received the schedule and the list of the speakers ahead of the start. Receiving the list of the speakers was particularly helpful as it provided me with an opportunity to look them up and learn more about them.
Amazing! The recruiters and the other participants were very engaging, and I think everyone had a great time!
The trainees and senior employees talked us through the typical days and typical tasks in their respective teams and the skills they consider to be the most important in their daily tasks, so it was incredibly helpful for my understanding of how UBS works and what employees in different teams do and, ultimately, how different teams function.
I believe the fact that all participants were eager to share their experiences and tips and the recruiters were engaging convinced me that people at UBS are generally approachable and ready to help the newcomers out. Also, it was great to hear that UBS takes corporate responsibility, volunteering, philanthropy and SDGs seriously.
Very! I am now definitely going to apply for internships and graduate programmes with UBS and I have decided which department interests me the most (it's best to approach it with an open mind but by the end of the programme you'd definitely know which one you'd choose). Also, it was a great opportunity to connect with current trainees and senior employees on LinkedIn.
Everything Else
Not applicable as the students could not travel to the office due to lockdown
Due to the online nature of the event, there weren't many face-to-face networking opportunities (again, through no fault of the firm) but we had plenty of chances to ask questions during the sessions (and the speakers were more than happy to answer). Also, we were advised to connect with recruiters, trainees and senior employees on LinkedIn.
Yes, a lot of trainees talked eagerly about the facilities at UBS (such as gym and canteens), the location of the office, social events and volunteering opportunities, and it painted a very positive picture. Everyone also shared their views on work/life balance at UBS (which differs from department to department but is generally quite good).
Definitely! If you're interested in a career in Banking and Finance you'd gain a great deal from this program (even if you come from a non-Finance background you won't feel left out): an insight into the work that UBS does and its culture, and you'd get a great chance to meet the recruiters and current trainees and employees.
