    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a great experience. There were a lot of events being organised throughout the year (some teams have more events than others) which is great to be a part of. The Christmas Party was great and very fun. You meet a lot of people not only from your team and the people you work with, but also through other interns. The work was interesting and was busy throughout the year long internship. I learned a lot during this one year.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team was very welcoming and always available to help to answer any questions I may have. I definitely felt valued by my colleagues. I had a few one on ones, and during those, my manager always made it a point to tell me how happy they were with the way I was performing. My team was very appreciative and definitely made me feel like I was part of the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was always available to answer any questions I had. I would often ask him and other colleagues on my team for help whenever I was in doubt. They never made me feel like any question was stupid and were always willing to help.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were periods where I was very busy and others that were more quiet, however, I was very busy most of the time and if there were quiet periods, it was only a couple days a month. Being busy was great as it not only ensured that I was learning a lot, but it also allows you to adapt to working under pressure with a lot of things to finish at the same time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility to tasks that were important for the team. I was rarely doing admin work and the tasks I was given to do were tasks that any full time employee would be doing as well. I really enjoyed the fact that I was able to be a big contributor to the team.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that I have learned skills that will contribute to any future roles that I will have. I was able to learn adaptability while working with different members in my team. Working in a fast paced environment and having tight deadlines helps you work under pressure. Furthermore, working within this team and having important tasks that contribute to the team, has boosted my confidence as I was able to fully understand what needs to be done.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very positive and fun. Most of the time there were drinks or snacks provided for things on a monthly basis. There were often drinks organised after work as well. We were quite close as a team, and thus, there was a lot of fun conversations. It was not just coming into the office and leaving. I have built great friendships during the year.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I believe that the hiring process was organised, however, the assessment center was delayed quite a lot and was much later than the expected date. There was not much communication with this either. However, after joining the team, I believe that the internship was very organised. It depends on your team and how they plan for it but there was a two week handover with the previous intern, and then slowly as I got used to the tasks, the team would give me more to do.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was able to attend one external training during my internship which was great. On top of this, I believe that there is a learning & development team that has useful links and trainings available.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    Travel loan

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If there is capacity within your team and your team is happy with the way you have performed, they will definitely try to hire you and offer you something, whether it is full-time or contracting. There are quite a few people who have been hired and others who are waiting for the approval process to be hired.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, there was definitely a good social scene. We had a group through which we would plan nights out and drinks after work. On top of this, we had lunch together daily, with whoever was able to join that day. You will not feel lonely during this internship.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Since it is central London, it is quite expensive, however, there are good deals around the office for happy hours that we definitely took advantage of. On top of this, there are many events that are organised with the office which gives you more social time and drinks. There was a great social environment at work and after work.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are plenty of places to go in the area given that you are in Central London. In terms of Nightlife, there are more than enough options with happy hours after work. All walking distance from the office in Central London. If you are based by Osterley, there are not really any Nightlife options in the area.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a lot of opportunities to get involved. Firstly, there is the Young Professionals Network that you can get involved with during your internship. Furthermore, there are many different employee groups that you can inquire about and try and get involved. They have activities outside of work as well. There are also opportunities to take part of for example, Halloween Kids day and help out with that, or to help out with potential new interns for the next year etc.
