The Role
Working at NBCUniversal for the past 10 months has been everything and more than what I expected. Everyone I have met along the way has been so willing to help with nothing being too much trouble and always ensure you succeed in everything you do. I feel the company does well at looking after their staff and offering an open door to discuss any problems or issues you may have. I have made some life long friends whilst working for NBCUniversal which I'm very grateful for.
I feel extremely valued by my colleagues, I try my best to volunteer for every opportunity that gets thrown my way to ensure I'm making the most of my year at NBCUniversal, which I like to think will help me long term to grow as a person and develop more useful skills. Along side this I aim to always finish tasks to a high standard, I have been set some tight deadlines which were sometimes a struggle to complete, however my team are always very grateful/thankful to me when I have completed these tasks. I received a lovely thank you card from my SVP once, which was a lovely thought and made me feel appreciated.
I have been given support in many ways from my manager, from support through daily tasks (especially during my first few weeks at the company, and getting my head around things) to support in my personal life, even if this was just someone to get some advice from. My manager also encourages me to make the most of every opportunity that comes my way, and always ask questions and speak to people who have made a name for themselves within the industry to help me grow my own career.
No two days are the same for me which I really enjoy, I always have things to do and am never bored or have time to be bored. I keep a running 'to do' list on my desk which I add to regularly and priorities certain jobs, being one of the main central contacts for the team means people always need things doing. There have been a handful of times where the workload has felt slightly overwhelming, however I have been able to manage this by expressing this to my team and sometimes taking my self off somewhere quieter to complete certain tasks.
From the start of my placement I feel my team trusted me with a large amount of responsibility which i enjoyed, rather that sitting on the back burner! My placement included organizing a lot of important meetings with clients/stakeholders which played a large role in my time at the company. As well as this I also helped organised team trips (internationally and domestically) and client events, promo/material development.
After taking up this placement after graduating from University last summer, I have been able to develop on the skills I gained from university and put these to practice in my job. I have also developed deeper communication skills from my time at NBCUniversal, having to interact face to face and over the telephone with multiple people from around the globe on a regular basis.
The Company
The office has a lovely atmosphere, from my first day I felt so welcome and everyone was so friendly and happy to help. Everywhere you walk people speak to you and are polite and kind, I have made some very genuine friendships throughout my time at the company and like to hope these people will be people I will continue to communicate with in the future.
I feel the internship placement was well organised, initially it took a while to hear back from the company in regards to whether we had been successful or not during the interview processes (securing the job), however I can understand they have a lot of people to get back to and contact in a short time! My manager communicated with me straight away emailing me to welcome me to the team/company before I had started which was a lovely touch. The early careers team have done a wonderful job of keeping up regular communication with all of the interns and putting on amazing events/activities for us to take part in during our time at NBCU, the screenings and social gatherings are a great way to mingle with other interns you don't get to see on a daily basis!
The team always encouraged me to speak to people within the company in regards to my future plans/getting advice for the future which was great. I feel I could have benefited with some more training in certain areas which would have helped me in my role such as some design training for presentations/decks.

Very appealing, from very early on during my placement I have expressed a firm interest in staying within the company after my placement year is over. I think the company has great morals and values and I love the welcoming and friendly atmosphere I work in each day. I hope that if I do manage to secure myself another position within the company that I can grow my skills further and further and really grab all opportunities thrown at me with both hands to further develop in this industry.
The Culture
Yes! A large group of us regularly meet up after work and socialize which is lovely. I moved to London to pursue this job/career so the move was a little daunting to me, however I quickly found my feet and met some amazing people on the internship scheme and we became friends which allowed me more of a social life outside of the office.
I decided to live more on the outskirts of London to keep my living costs down, however I ended up paying more for my travel this way so I think wherever you live costs will be high. Socializing in London was bound to be expensive however you just need to be sensible with your money. I did have to make certain sacrifices to be able to free up extra money for myself to socialize/be comfortable but overall I managed.
Good! Lots of bars and places to eat which makes going out after work a very easy thing to do which is a great option to have when you've had a busy day!
Yes however I think there could be more, I haven't joined any myself.
