The Role
The placement was a great opportunity to see what work life will be after University and understand and develop your strengths. My placement had very little to do with my degree and it gave me a chance to experience a different field.
I felt definitely valued by my colleagues. You can't expect that you'll get along with everyone the same, but overall I think they appreciated my work. Importantly, if you deliver on your first projects, your colleagues will know you can be trusted with more responsibilities.
I definitely think this was one of the highlights of my placement. My manager was very supportive and would always go the extra mile to ensure I was comfortable and had all the resources to succeed.
Very! The projects you work on will keep you very busy. There is so much to learn, as well as endless networking opportunities.
More than I thought I would have when I started. If you consistently deliver good results, you will be given more opportunities and responsibilities.
I feel confident going back to University at the end of the placement knowing that I have learned to prioritise efficiently, manage projects, and overcome the obstacles I encountered.
The Company
Great! Really friendly and welcoming. Everyone was always really keen to help me or support me if I needed it.
it was outstanding, we had so many opportunities that we could access as Placement Students and many people focused on giving us a chance to get the most out of these 12 months.
We don't get a 'training budget', but the company had several internal resources, training and courses we could access as IP students.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I definitely would like to come back and explore other areas of the business.
The Culture
Placements students were very social and we would meet up almost every day after work. My colleagues were much older than me and had families, it was rare that we would hang out after work.
Cost of living was quite high, being so close to London. Overall I think pubs and restaurants were not too expensive. The main expense during weekend outings was usually the train ticket into London.
Not the most lively, unless you were planning to go to London. Even then, you'd have to get the last train back at around Midnight
Quite a few, either organised through work (but not related to it), or organised independently.
