The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Unilever. I have gained lots of experience not only in my role but in other areas of the business too. I was given lots of responsibility but I felt supported and appreciated throughout. Will definitely be looking to come back as a graduate!
I felt that my options and suggestions were always given a lot of credibility and valued as much as the other senior members of my team.
My Line Manager and team were incredibly supportive throughout my placement. I felt comfortable talking to anyone, no matter what work level. I was supported to explore new areas that I was interested in and given constant feedback which helped me to develop and improve my skill set.
Each week is different. You are given a lot of responsibly and if you are organised and can manage your time well you will be able to fit this work within your 8 hour working day. I worked in a global team so due to time zones I sometimes had to work outside this.
You are given lots of responsibly within your role right from the beginning. I managed and lead several components of projects and i was held accountable to make sure I had delivered these within the deadlines. However, you will always have the support of your team if needed.
The skills i have developed will be beneficial in helping me in my final year of university and in future roles. I was able to develop skills I already had and encouraged to learn new skills. My line mnager encouraged me each week to take time and develop my own learning.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is friendly and supportive. I felt I could go up and talk or ask questions to anyone in the office no matter what work level they are.
The placement is very well organised. I had not only the support of my line manager but I was also given a contact manager who I spoke to about work and any concerns I may have had. We had 6 placement students within my function and we were in constant contact and organised event days where we could meet up.
Unilever gave me access to many different learning platforms and training to help me develop these skills. I also attended different workshop days and events to help develop these skills even further.

If successful, after my placement I will be fast tracked to an assessment centre for a graduate job. I am very interested in perusing this route as Unilever is a brilliant company and I hope to work for them in future
The Culture
The social scene is excellent! There were lots of summer placements, industrial placements and graduates within the office so the social scene is very lively. My team also orgainised lots of social events such as the races, nights out and food and drink festivals.
I lived in Liverpool for my placement. The cost of living was fairly low, cheaper than London. I paid £110 a week for a share flat, that had a gym included. But there are definitely cheaper alternatives.
I decided to live in Liverpool and commute to the office everyday (20 minutes on the train). The nightlife is brilliant, very student based city so lots of good bars and clubs.
Yes lots! There are football teams set up by the company, as well as free yoga, pilaities and HIIT sessions which you can take part in.
