    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Thoroughly enjoyed working at Oracle throughout the 12 months. It was a great opportunity to be exposed to the newest technologies and work with them first hand. Work was always varied and interesting and we were given a lot of freedom to explore other area's of the business and get involved with events such as volunteering and Open World.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Fully valued. Not an internship in the traditional sense, we were thrown into the full job roles as if we were full time employees. We were given a great team and mentors to work alongside us, throughout the year we were given more and more responsibility and opportunities to work with Oracle's largest customers.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Full support throughout from managers and supervisors. Weekly meetings held to review progress on tasks and monthly 1-2-1 meetings to review the past month and set goals for the next. Constantly being pushed to learn more and expand our networks. Great support from the leader of the program throughout the year, offering advice and support.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Workload was great, enough to keep busy but not too much to be stressful. Opportunity to get involved with lots of projects alongside your role, which was a great way to learn from other area's of the business and expand your network. Task's were varied and interesting throughout.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot of responsibility. As a Technical Account Manager I was the single point of contact for multiple medium to large sized accounts. These customers would view me as there advisor and support gateway into Oracle which allowed me the opportunity to build a good repertoire even amount Oracle's customers.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I felt that throughout my placement I have learnt more than I could been taught in a University setting. Whether it be crucial business knowledge or soft / interpersonal skills it was an amazing learning experience for me and will retain the skills I have learnt for the rest of my career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great atmosphere in the office. Everyone was friendly and willing to help. Built a lot of good relationships just through being in the office. Due to the large number of interns and graduate it also made for a fun atmosphere in the office, which as times resembled being at university.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Extremely organized. A whole week of inductions with the entire intern cohort, opportunity to meet lots of people and discover the opportunities available. Then a 6 week training program to learn the in-and-outs of Oracle Hardware Support with workshops for the experts. Constant flow of project work throughout made it varied and interesting.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, lots of opportunities available for graduates. After speaking with the graduates throughout the year they came across just as passionate regarding the program as I felt regarding the internship so very promising. Oracle are at the forefront of cloud technologies so would be an amazing company to work for in the future.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Due to large cohort of interns and graduates the social scene was great. Most interns had moved from all over the country to Reading. Lots social events outside of work such as 5-a-side football almost weekly and nights out. During the induction you are taken out for a meal with the past interns and your new team which is a great way to get things started.

Toastmaster enabled me to attend Club Office training meetings and workshops outside of work as well as visiting Microsofts Toasmasters club on many occasions. Open World Europe was also a great opportunity to get a broader a view of Oracle as a whole with keynotes from Oracle CEO Safra Catz.
