The Role
I thought it was really insightful. I learnt so much in just one year. I 100% got involved in as many opportunities as I could and this is also thanks to Oracle providing such a variety of tasks, projects and extra work such as charities and volunteering to get involved in
I really felt valued by my colleagues. I am in a team with another 3 interns and everyone else in the team respected us since day and always believed in our capabilities and that we could bring something unique to the company. I really got alone with my team and colleagues
I was given a good amount of support from my manager and team members. We had recurring 1to1 - these sadly didn't happen much for the first 6 months but then they became more recurring and were really useful. But there was always support and guidance when needed. I can't say the same about university
I have been really busy all year which is great. This was also due to me being highly ambitious and going to look for more opportunities to get involved in as soon as my tasks in the team were quiet due to times in the quarter with little need of communicating changes and updates.
I really enjoyed how the team realized how ambitious I was and how much responsibility I wanted and how they didn't take this for granted. They really did put trust in me, pushing me to do what I liked and giving me projects and tasks with high responsibilities and always expected good results from me
I learnt so many skills this year, such as time management, punctuality, communication at a corporate level, networking etc. I do feel like I really grew up not only intellectually but also as a person. This placement helped me understand what I want to do in the future. Thus it will lead to me focusing on what I want to do during my studies and having a better idea of what career path I want to have,
The Company
I really liked the office. The only problem is that most people in based in TVP work from home so it was really quiet all the time and it was mainly populated by the interns in my placement year. But I really liked the structure, provided services and just the ambiance. I did prefer it when more people were in as it makes it more interesting to see new faces and have the opportunity to network
I think in the beginning it was quite confusing as we weren't told which roles we were exactly in when we got the job. We were only told 2 weeks before to start. We were also informed last on things like - the contract end date (10th July) when we all thought it was 1st July. And which offices we were based in (Reading/London) But apart from the beginning the rest of the year was fairly organized, with a lot of training and events scheduled for us by the intern's programme manager
Highly. As I mentioned before, Oracle offers so many opportunities to its colleagues. This can be in form of training, events, projects, classes. I really did appreciate this and tried to get involved in as many as I could - such as attending regularly Oracle toastmaster, bi-weekly sessions to help develop your public speaking skills. As well as multiple trainings on storytelling, presentation, visual communication, AI etc etc

I thought about this quite a few times. I think I do see myself coming back at Oracle but in the future. I am the kind of person that gets satisfied by seeing evident results and impact of my actions, thus, this is difficult in Oracle due to it being such a big corporate company. So, I'd rather do a few years working in a medium company with higher responsibilities and various/rotating marketing roles and then join a corporate, such as Oracle once I really understand which exact job role I am passionate about. But my team talked to me about this quite a few times, so Ii know that there is a window for me in case I wanted to come back
The Culture
Yes, it's great how many interns Oracle recruits. We were 50+! This was great especially in the beginning as it didn't feel so scary as we were all going through this new adventure together. It was really nice that at lunchtime we all sat together and we organized a few events and hangouts such as the Christmas Social. There was a good social atmosphere
I worked in Reading. I don't think that it was expensive - especially after living in Brighton. My house was fairly cheap for the quality of the house - the house is really modern and spacious. To go to work there is this TVP bus that goes from the city to the office and it's free so it was really convenient. Office prices for food/drinks were good especially for the quality of it (especially the steak, chips, onion rings on fridays for only £4.20!)
Reading nightlife is not bad, there isn't so much choice but it also depends on what music genre you like. I am studying in Brighton which is a party city so surely I have really high standards of nightlife. Reading has nice quite a few nice bars, clubs are a bit more disappointing. A new club that I really liked opened a couple of months before the covid-19 situation started which was a shame
Yes and no, we organized a few nights out with other interns, and the mall is easily accessible - but after a bit you just repeat on doing the same things. I think it's really important to socialise as much with other interns, this will make the whole placement more fun and entertaining
