The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement overall due to the amazing opportunities given to me. I enjoyed working not only within my team but also with my fellow interns on interesting projects and learning sessions. I have gained further insight into B2B industry having only knowledge of B2C prior to my placement.
I felt extremely valued by my employees throughout the entirety of my placement. I was given lots of responsibility from day one proving that my colleagues saw my potential. I would always still actively seek extra opportunities within and outside of my team and was always encouraged to do so.
I was supported by my manager and line manager consistently and would always make time for me if I needed help with something. I would be given new tasks regularly and trusted to complete them to the highest standard. Both managers supported my requirements for my university degree also, such as my portfolio.
The work fluctuated like in any job with busy periods and less busier days, however it is always important to seek out work and new experiences. I would get involved with other teams (with my managers permission) to learn other skills, for example I worked with my mentor for the day who works in a predominantly sales role.
I was given a fair share of responsibility and the line of communication was always open if I felt like I was being given too much. I would personally co-operate with events agencies, associations and sales teams when working at events. I would also be tasked with gathering information post-event for reports.
This placement has absolutely set me up with skills for life that I would not have learnt otherwise in university or in my part-time job. I have learnt how to network successfully, manage my time exceedingly well and especially how to gain new experiences by reaching out to other teams.
The Company
The general atmosphere is definitely a very professional setting which I expected. However everyone is very friendly and smiley when walking around the office. Reception, IT, the cafeteria are always very bubbly and happy to help if you have any queries or get lost in your first couple of weeks!
It was set up very well with each intern having their main role and team to work within but there was also an educational based side. The HR Consultant of Emerging Talent always made sure we were constantly tracking our progress and reviewing where we could improve to better ourselves.
The personal training and development was mainly focused through the Intern manager and included topics such as presentation skills and public speaking. We would hear from influential people within Oracle and how they go tot where they are today. My team always encouraged me to attend these sessions so I was learning as well as working.

I have always heard positive feedback from my team about my work however it is uncertain to say whether I would be successful in getting a job with them as I have one year of university left and I am looking to go traveling afterwards. I have made some amazing contacts throughout networking at my time in Oracle.
The Culture
The social scene is existent however because this internship is 9-5 5 days a week - it isn't like university. The interns will hang out in their spare time after work by going on nights out etc. We would also have dinners for special events such as Christmas which would bring everyone together!
I was based in Reading and lived in Earley. I lived in an ensuite room which was probably more on the expensive side but I never struggled to pay my rent from my earnings - it just depends on what kind of place you want to live but I highly recommend spare room and Pillar properties if you're based in Reading! The socialising was a bit on the pricey side...
Reading is a student city so there are a lot of clubs/bars with students everywhere you look. It was always very vibrant but definitely more expensive on the weekends which was annoying because most nights out are Fridays and Saturdays. Never had an awful night out in Reading so can't complain massively - just long queues.
There's so much going on at Oracle that isn't always made aware of at first but you should always see what is going on to get involved with! Examples are toastmasters, OWL and plenty of volunteering opportunities that are really great experiences to learn and meet lots of new people!
