The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed the placement, great mix of projects and a really friendly office environment.
Always felt valued, my direct manager was always supportive with my work and often emphasized how my work made a difference and had an impact.
I always felt I was given a good amount of support, I never felt afraid to ask my colleagues questions. In addition to this upper management were always friendly and willing to have meeting in regards to my development.
I was mostly busy, given the freedom I was given to work on my own projects it was often a case of managing my time. Whilst there was occasionally the odd quiet moment where my workload slowed down it was never long until it picked up again
I feel I was given a good level of responsibility during my placement, definitely more than I would've expected. Work I have completed during my placement is in use in training for hospitals and being given to patients.
I feel my excel skills have developed extremely well during my placement which will definitely help my In my future career. In addition to this I have been given the confidence to network and present which is something I really wanted to work on through my placement. The company offers a variety of training modules which are both in person and online and I was always encouraged to make use of these.
The Company
The office was always extremely friendly and I never felt uncomfortable. The office itself is very modern and a nice atmosphere to work in. At times it can be quiet due to its remote nature and the ability to work from home, however in my own team I never felt I had a lack of colleagues around me.
The placement is very well organized, the company has a good structure which allows for a placement student to sit within their department and feel like one of the team. We had a good variety of out of office activities available for us(e.g. visits to other company sites) which we were always encouraged to partake in.
The firm was always willing to put me on any courses I wanted to go on. In addition to this upper management were always happy to have a chat in regards to my future career plans and development. There is a graduate scheme available which I feel further invests in the student and their development.

There is a graduate scheme available which I would definitely like to apply for. In addition to this there are entry level jobs in the company which I would definitely consider in the future. I feel like I have good connections within the company now to improve my future career prospects within the organization.
The Culture
There is a good social opportunity within the office with the other 4 placement students who work at Baxter Healthcare UK, and going on walks in the countryside was frequent on lunch breaks. However due to the remote nature of the office there is a lack of outside the office activities, largely due to us all commuting from far away.
The cost of living was reasonable, I lived in a nearby town during my placement which was about 15 miles from the office. There is a lack of socializing available and I would return home every weekend to socialise. As a result however there is minimal cost to living whilst on the placement.
There is no nightlife in the area. The office is situated in a rural village in Berkshire. Reading is around 20 miles away so sometimes placement students choose to live there. Obviously in Reading there is nightlife however this relies on you having friends in Reading, which is unlikely to come in the form of work colleagues.
There is some opportunity to get involved in local volunteering, this is mostly due to the volunteering often being organized by the placement students and during my year at Baxter I organized multiple volunteering trips to the local school to help out (With the yearly fun run & planting trees).
