The Role
I throughly enjoyed my placement at IBM. It allowed me to gain a wide range of business and techinical skills which I can adapt to use in serveral roles across a business. My placement allowed me to gain both social and work relationships which will be valuable for my future.
My manager was always open to me exploring adaptations to orginal methods within my role and supported me in opportunities outside of my role. No matter the band of a colleague, they would always take time to listen to questions I had and help me with anything I needed.
I was given support with my work by my task manager constantly and he always reminded me he was only a message away if I ever needed help. I felt confident that if I had a problem, both personal or work related, that my early professional manager and task manager would be there to support me.
How busy I was in my role varied day to day and depedning if we were close to the end of a business quarter. My role allowed me to have time to get involved in additional opportunities which were valuable to making the most out of my placement.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement. I was responsible for producing presentations for my manager that he would present at globla events. As well as this, I was responsible for tracking opportunities throughout the year which my manager would use for clients and senior leaders within IBM.
During my placement, I strengthen existing skills I attained but also developed several business and tehcinal skills that I will use throughout my work career for the rest of my life. IBM offer a learning platform which allows new skills to be attained as well as recieveing credited learning badges from this.
The Company
The office created a calm and fun work envrionment. The office contained a sofa / comfy work area to work in when you wanted to relax but also several offices that were avaliable to book if you needed them.
The process of the applying for the application was simple and I was kept updated on the progress of my application throughout. During your placement, you keep in close contact withg your early professional manager who tells you infromation about 3, 6 and 12 month reviews. IBM orgainse a handover period with the placement student before you. This allows you to spend one on one time with another colleague to understand your role.
When joining IBM, you are set the goal to complete 40 learning hours throughout your placement. There are monthly learning activities set for placement students which cover a range of topics such as AI. I was encouraged my IBM to apply for apprenticehsips and continue my learning with them.

I am currently in the process of applying for the degree apprenticeship for IBM. The future employment prospects are extremely appealing both for apprenticeships and graduate jobs.
The Culture
The social scene was extremely good! IBM encouraged social time with peers, setting up monthly events for business units to encourage networking.
London is overall a very expensive place. Rent is very expensive annd most pubs and bars were overpriced, however this is expected for London.
Very good! Lots of big clubs and loads of different concerts / events.
Me and some other placement students joined a local netball league close to work which allowed us to socialise out of work and play something we enjoy.
