The Role
I really enjoyed placement year, it was a great balance of work and networking to meet amazing people. I've learnt so much this placement year and always felt respected.
I've learnt so much from my colleagues, they valued and respected my input most of the time, and supported me through my work too.
I did have to work independently some times, but there were always people I could reach out to- I knew there was support if I needed it.
Depended on the project, at one point I didn't have any project work and so felt bored. But mostly when on a project I felt engaged.
Depending on whether I was working with other senior designers, I was given little or a lot of work. When placed as the only designer I had sole responsibility but when working with people I wanted to learn from I was delegated smaller tasks.
My skills developed massively, I've learnt so much on placement- it was an invaluable experience that will impact my career prospects purely from the knowledge I've gained on placement.
The Company
The general atmosphere was relaxed but also friendly mostly. I felt I could go to people to ask questions and be supported but also that I could be left to get on with the work I wanted. There were always people around to go on coffee breaks with. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
With such a big company and so many roles, I suppose there will always be difficulty organizing so many interns on this scale. There were some hiccups, but nothing that stressed me out and always support to get it sorted as soon as possible which is always a relief to know.
I feel that the firm did invest in me, I was provided with licenses for software and many opportunities to take up workshops and try out training- all provided by the company. Although, I do feel that there could be a better way to engage people properly with these opportunities.

Very appealing, the graduate scheme is open to interns and we are given support in applying. The scheme looks like a great opportunity to get more responsibility and develop more so than the internship. As well, graduates onboard together which means you automatically join with people you soon will become friends with.
The Culture
London is expensive which restricted some people's extent of socializing. But with the discounted pub next door, everyone was open to drinks after work and interns organized their own intern boat Christmas party which always is great fun! Often it is self organized and paid for by the interns themselves outside of work.
It's London- it's going to be expensive, but everyone is in it together and you do get paid accordingly to be able to cover London living costs. With budgeting in the right things, you can quite easily get by on placement pay in London. There's so much to do and try out which doesn't require lots of money- and all the interns will be interested in doing that too.
It's London. The nightlife varies with where you go. In comparison to other cities, yes it is expensive. But be smart, enjoy your nights out, and it's also nightlife you don't want to miss out on. There will always be some people up for going out, and there will always be somewhere good to go out to as well.
Not organized by the company itself. But, the city itself, yes. It's London. There's endless opportunities to get involved in any activities you like. The female interns set up their own netball team this year- where we competed with teams around London. Give the city an explore, there's so much to discover.
