The Role
During my year so far, Oracle have been outstanding. From the start Oracle has offered great support, hosting bonding experiences with other interns allowing friendships to be made quickly, ensuring my team and i to feel comfortable from the get go. All staff are friendly and are always up for having a joke! Don't think for a minute you'll be bored at Oracle, there is always activities / projects to get involved in.
Oracle value all interns as real staff members in my opinion. Throughout my year, the responsibility i have been given has been amazing and has allowed me to learn huge amounts! From the first few weeks i was offered the chance to work a global project!
The support / guidance that Oracle offers is fantastic. All managers will want to know what you are doing and will offer you support when ever is needed! Additionally, I had multiple mentors within other LOB's that also gave me guidance and support throughout my year!
I was busy in and out the office most days, aking part in my day job and also taking part and running volunteering projects. Even during COVID-19 now, i am still getting given work to complete and there are projects still available to get involved in. Still busy most days :)
I was given huge amounts of responsibility during my placement. I was able to run and take part in multiple global projects, while being allowed to travel to and from central London, for extra curricular activities and to get involved with as many customers as possible. Compared to my house mate who had a placement elsewhere, i was not just sitting on a PC all day entering data into a spreadsheet.
I have learned uncountable amounts during my internship at Oracle. I have learnt more technical skills for my course, while getting better, well rounded interpersonal skills, attending public speaking courses to improve my communication and leadership skills. I would highly recommend choosing oracle to do your placement. I will now be able to go back to uni knowing how a multinational IT company operates and can keep the skills learned for life. Thank you Oracle!
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was lively and it is unfortunate that our time in the office was cut short due to COVID-19. It is a very busy office in London which is exciting, getting the city life experience. Reading office is quieter, however this allows you to build on relationships easier in my opinion.
From the introduction day, to the pandemic we are now in, Oracle are always well prepared. The internship has an internship coordinator now and she is amazing while being a great laugh! Meetings will be put in place to ensuring you are staying positive and working hard. Additionally, all managers will have put together a plan for the majority of the year.
From the start of the internship, training was put in place for my team and I. Multiple training courses had to be completed before i could start my day to day job and this was great to get some background knowledge! Oracle provide all interns with Linkedin learning for the year. During COVID-19 Oracle have put courses online for free which would usually cost over $100 to take the exam! I am set to take mine just after July!

For myself, future employment prospects would be really appealing. I would love to return back to Oracle once my final year has been completed. They really treat you like an employee while you are an intern and i want to be apart of such a diverse multinational company! Oracle allow you try different roles during your internship and i would love to return to the same role or even a new one!
The Culture
All placement students were put into a Whatsapp group chat. There is a really good social scene with house parties organised throughout the year. Some weekends the majority of interns also met in reading centre and had a night out! The night life in reading is good and you will also get the chance to go out and have a social life in central London!
The living costs are not to bad if you are living in the Reading area! I am paying around 720 a month including bills for a nice, modern 2 bed flat with my house mate. It was very convenient as there was a Tesco literally 2 minute walking distance! I would recommend living in Reading rather than central London.

When joining oracle there are so many different opportunities to get involved with outside activities! The first activity i got involved in, was taking part in the Palace to palace 46 mile bike ride for the Princes Trust. This was a great bonding experiences for myself and other colleagues. There is also many other outside work activities! I would apply to Oracle and see what they have to offer for FY21!
