The Role
I had a great time on my placement, starting at the same time as other placement students made it really easy to make friends at the company. I learnt a lot during my placement year and loved the work I was doing.
As I got to take part in many team and department meetings I got to know people in the department well and felt like I could contribute to the company.
I had an individual line manager who I could always go to with questions etc and if he was unavailable there was always someone else I could ask.
Some days I was extremely busy in the lab but I liked being this busy. Other days had a more relaxed pace.
I felt like I was given an appropriate amount of responsibility during my placement, as time went on and I became more confident I was driving decisions regarding my project more but always had support and guidance in doing this. Towards the end of my placement I had the opportunity to lead a small team in the planning of an experiment which was an exciting new opportunity.
I hugely improved both my confidence and skills in the lab which will benefit me greatly in my final year of uni. I also gained team work and presentation skills which I believe will be beneficial throughout my life.
The Company
I really liked the atmosphere in the office. They seated placement students all together so it was great to be able to sit next to people my own age.
Placement was very well organised.
There were many opportunities to attend training courses etc throughout the year. Also got to virtually attend conferences related to my subject area.

I would be interested in getting a job with this company again later in my career as I really enjoyed the placement year and love the ethos of the company.
The Culture
As I lived with 3 of the other placement students and there was a group of about 14 of us working on the same site it was really easy to make friends and socialise together.
Not the cheapest place to live but can make do and there are lots of things to do outside for free.
Definitely not the city to go to for a big nightlife but there were still a few clubs and lots of really nice bars and cocktail places.
The company has a club for people at early stages of the career through which many social activities etc were organised.
